Make websites harder to download for those on dialup - SBP

A "consultant" in the business post has said that all the noise that certain people make about availability is just Irish begrudgery at work and the way to get people to use broadband is for the Government to make websites harder to download for those on dialup.
The relevance issue could prove more difficult in that many people find their dial-up access is all they require for their limited level of internet usage. However, if the government were to begin setting up content-rich sites for the public which required broadband access for full functionality, this too might be addressed.

That and other nuggets of wisdom from John White of PA Consulting here.

Presumably he was drunk when he said that as most websites aren't 56K friendly already.

Also while the rest of the world is moving toward lighter, faster sites with web 2.0 technologies (feel so dirty for using that crappy buzz word), he is suggesting we bloat our websites.

    Sir I salute your ignorance.

What a muppet. He deserves to be forced to use dial up for the rest of his miserable life.

lol funniest thing I've read today, the vast majority of websites are far from 56k friendly.

If you have flash installed in your browser you'll get killed with flash adverts on most sites you'll goto (even iol.ie), if your a teenager say bye bye to bebo.com and youtube.com cause you'll be waiting all day for them to load because of all the flash content*

Oh and if your a business...well its not fun downloading 2-10MB pdf and word docs via e-mail or from websites :)

    *
while flash block extentions and add-ons exist the vast majority of users don't know about them and are not techy enough to install them or use them correctly without causing problems for themselfs
