just a thought re online cash games!?

So I’ve been playing a bit of cash online recently (something I rarely do) and am curious if there’s any logic in the madness below…

I’m playing 10c-20c so not huge stakes, sitting in with $20 each time (the max on iPoker) and I find at the start I’m playing proper poker and I can get to say $25-$30 pretty easily, but then the strangest thing happens, I start to protect my profit… which is silly… but needless to say it leads to me being back down to $20 pretty quick and then usually much lower.

Now I know buying in with 100bb’s is pretty optimum if bankrolled for it, which I am, but what happens once I buy in is that I think I shouldn’t be worried about how up or how down I am from my initial buy in and I should just be playing best strategy on each hand, and not watching the ups and downs of the session, just playing each hand as best I can… so all this is a long way of getting to my question…

Is there any merit to taking a post-it note or something and sticking it on the screen over your stack, hiding how much you have, how much your up, how much your down. You’re just playing each hand with the best intention of how to win the hand, not worrying about how much you have etc etc…!?

i'm sure you know most of this already but you should play each session with the intention of making the best decisions possible regardless of how much your up or down..
try to forget about how much you win or lose in a given session.. try to think about playing as many hands as possible as optimally as possible, and feel the satisfaction in your pokertracker stats after a given week/month/year, rather than looking at the short term..

i don't think there's any merit in this whatsoever as i think it's to your own advantage that you know how much your up/down in a given session..
on top of this, knowing your own pfr/af and keeping track of hands you've showndown is highly advantageous so you can determine how the rest of the players perceive you at the table so you can play against that image for parts of the remaining session.. ducy?.. goddman bbv4life..

yes it's one of the biggest factors in determining how you play hands.

If it bothers you this much cash out at $30 and buy in on another table for $20. I'll do this sometimes when I have a big stack because getting stacked for 100bb out of my 300bb stack tilts me big time.

Forceing yourself to get over it would be bestthough.

This happens me all the time, I dont play much cash but when i do i tend to around double up, then before i know it i'm back where i started. I dont know why, maybe new players came in and the table shifts and i dont adjust to the new table. I'm assuming you play No limit, on party you can download something to blur out your stack size http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=4851079&page=0&fpart=all&vc=1 This is more for Limit though.

Find a table with a high average pot which will means they'res gonna be a few loose players thus improving your chances of doubling up early whilst being patient at the same time.
I started playing 25/50c on paddy only this weekend and on the very 1st table i played i got it up to $88 with a $20 buy in (sadly everyone either went bust or left) Yesterday i found a table with an average pot of $11 and the first hand i got was QQ, a guy raised 2.50, i reraised up to 6.50 and he put me all in ($20) which wasn't exactly a good play. He had AQ and missed so in a minutes play i doubled up so that was one table i wasn't gonna leave in a hurry.
Of course in between all this on saturday nite i blew $40 after a night on the beer which is not the time to be playing especially for me as i tend to play nearly every hand and couldnt care less tho i got out fast enough even in my drunken state when i realised i would only have kept on losing.

Wasnt Roland quoted as saying that somewhere?

I think I could do with that at times when I wana make that extra few $ to break a "target" and then proceed in donating my stack to get over x amount of money

You may be right. i dont honestly know what he said but then again i suppose it's common sense and after a while id imagine most half decent players will figure this out without having to read books tho every little bit of extra info can do no harm.

you need to know your stacksize at all times.

plus playing deep is far more interesting and fun than just playing 100bbs.

hmm, I suggest you try using your profit to make more profit, instead of defending it. Try and imagine your profit as a freeroll perhaps?
