Hi,6 month old pc philips iqon working fine until two days ago. On pressing the on button it goes through post screen and then hangs there for maybe 15 minutes or so, then it goes on to the user log on page. When user is selected it takes approx 5 to 10 minutes to get to the desktop screen. Once there the pc works fine with no delay. Thought it might have been a windows issue and done a system restore but its still the same. I have a windows xp disk too and put that in and it made it as far as loading the windows files but then done the exact same thing and hung????? anyone got any idea on what it might be , rang iqon support but surprise surprise nobody there until tuesday.

First thing to do would be to limit the amount of startup programs. You can do this by running msconfig from the run box. Deselect all unneccessary start up items (basically everything bar your antivirus software) and reboot. You may also want to remove any additional connected devices like printers, usb hard drives etc in case one of those is causing a problem. Do you have antivirus software installed and up to date? If not try avg from www.free.grisoft.com.

Click Start, then Run, and type in msconfig and goto the Startup tab, and click the "disable all" option, and restart. If you notice a huge incease in speed, go through the list to see if there's something there that you don't know what it is, and google it. I'd say one process is causing the stall.

Either that, or backup your files, and do a format & reinstall, I'd say.

Thanks for the reply, I done the "disable all" option but its still the same. As its only 6 months old I assume its still under warranty from iqon so id rather not go reformatting just yet. Will wait until tues and see what they have to say about it.
