Pope Benedict has today canonised Saint Charles of Mount Argus, who although of Dutch nationality, had a strong Irish connection and who spent 28 years in Dublin as a Passionist priest.

The Legion of Mary were talking to me in Temple Bar yesterday, trying to convert me to Catholicism or something. But anyway, they mentioned that this guy was going to become a saint.

:p So the Church canonized another bloke based on dubious miracles! Gee, so many saints anymore:eek: .Miracles have natural causes and to aver that God works through them is mere obfuscation.

Wasn't "Irish Connections" what the media said when a suspected IRA man was with the police in England?

I knew a man who had lost his job as a postman becaue of drink, and was living rough. They helped him get off drink and get a Corporation flat, and they visited him every week to help him keep everything together. I saw him once a week also when I was a member of the St Vincent de Paul, until he died in his 40s from a heart attack, but their visits were more important to him than mine. Same Legion of Mary, to use your words. What is your point?
