Barcelona Safe?

    heading to barcelona in august,gona be staying in a hostel,just wondering can anybody recommend one and where is the safest area...is it barri gothic?!

    spent 3 weeks there on my own when I was 17 and had no trouble. It's safe if you keep your wits about you, just like any other place. Don't advertise that you're a tourist, and keep you things in your bad/back at hotel/zipped up.

    As far as remember, the ramblas basically divides the center of barcelona. North of Las Ramblas (the gothic area) is safe, while south is a bit dodgy. I was staying about 10 minute walk from the city City Center, in the "quiet" inner city area, and It was lovely. I felt grand walking about in the evening and it never felt dodgy. At the weekends, the Ramblas is packed with people all night, so even at 3/4 in the morning, you'll see grannies and kids walking around.

    Its very safe but there is a lot of pickpocketing etc going on.. Just keep your wits about you. Somewhere in the Barri Gothic is central and safe. Avoid the opposie side of Las Ramblas in El Rival...
