You Tube Crisis ! No Sound, Just Picture . . .

Folks,

As of today I cannot get any sound from any YouTube videos I click on.
But the sound on stored music videos comes through fine with WMA or Nero . . .

And looking through the Google I see that I'm not the only one with this problem.

I did get some strange message on the screen earlier today about there being no mixers installed or something . . .

Anyone out there with this hassle ?
Could it have anything to do with installing a new version of Firefox ?

are all the volumes on in your sound panel?

In paticular look at the wav volume.

I had that problem recently. I had to open Real Player and set the volume. The setting in Real Player determines the maximum volume in all applications on my PC. Why, I do not know.

All volumes bar microphone and phone line are on - i.e. not muted.

It seems to be Master Volume that does the YouTube sound, since one gets more noise from the speakers when it's turned up.

The curious thing is that it has been working fine till yesterday . . . and I've never had Real Player when I started looking at YouTube.

Has Nero an effect on these streamed videos ?

P.S. If you mean the volume on the YouTube screen itself - YES of course.
But that makes no difference.

OK, let's isolate it a bit.
Try playing another flash animation with sound, see if it's flash in general or specific to youtube. Badgers are both entertaining, and a valid test.

Id install flashplayer again.. http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

Also, for posting screenshots its generally easier and better to paste into mspaint and save as a jpg or similar, not everyone has msft word installed and its far easier to open as a jpg within firefox

Saw the badgers but heard nothing from them.

I have already re-installed Flash Player to no avail.

I emailed the YouTube people but only got an autoreply so far.
Days to a reply, I'd say.

Folks,

For yere information :-

I got this message (attached) when the volume control disapeared from the taskbar.

It can be fixed by going on administrator and :

Run services.msc

Scroll to Windows Audio

Right click on Properties

Click on Start

Status becomes "Started"

Close

I'd send the attachment but the Boards maintenance department is working at present and delays the upload.
Can't see why punters aren't told when maintenance is to be done - it'd be so much easier for themselves and us.
