    Original article: http://www.collider.com/entertainment/news/article.asp?aid=4525&tcid=1
A new hot young female hero is joining the gang on NBC's hit sci-fi drama "Heroes."

Dania Ramirez ("The Sopranos") has been added as a regular on the NBC Universal TV Studio series, which is returning for a second season in the fall.

Ramirez will play Maya, a new hero whose powers are being kept under wraps.

"Heroes" extends Ramirez's relationship with NBC. This past development season, she co-starred in the network's drama pilot "Fort Pit."

Maya is one of four to five new characters expected to be added to "Heroes" next season, but her character might be the only regular one. The other roles, most of which are said to have international flavor, include a sexy boyfriend for Claire (Hayden Panettiere), a 28-year-old black mother, a surrogate for Niki's (Ali Larter) son and an Irish mobster (HR 5/24).

The Dominican Republic-born Ramirez is garnering attention with her recurring role on HBO's "Sopranos," on which she plays A.J.'s (Robert Iler) former fiancee Blanca.

She also played Callisto in Fox's "X-Men: The Last Stand."

"a sexy boyfriend for Claire"?! NOOOO!!!! I'll find Season 2 very hard to watch because I'll be burning up in a jealous rage.

An Irish mobster? This could be interesting, as long as he's not a walking cliché (e.g. he has the power to turn into a leprechaun or say a rosary in 5 seconds or turn water into Guinness).

Irish mobsters tend to sound like super villians anyway.

The General, The Monk, The Penguin, The Viper etc...

Parenthesis seems to be used to give the actors names in the article... one can only assume a robot called 'HR 5/24' will be playing the part of an Irish mobster....

Or perhaps they'll only be in 5 of the 24 episodes in season 2.

Although season 2 is supposed to be showing us how there are people with abilities surfacing all around the world.

I'm skeptical: been flicking through these yankee channels y'know (back for summer) and I flick on to this one daytime drama and MY GOD those people never heard an Irish speak in their life - Imagine a group of 10 actors who learned an accent of another group of actors who learned it off another group of actors who may have had one actor in their group with a distant Irish relative.

Funniest bit for me was they were all in the pub and one of them is trying their hardest to do the accent...then they deliberately say Garage the American way :D

Whoever they get to play this Irish guy both you and me will be pissed if they aren't at the very least voice trained: Actually Irish would be a plus. Make em from Belfast: great accent :)

Nope... Bullseye was the best thing in that film... but that's not saying much about the quality of the film.

It's like saying the best thing about when you were kicked in the balls was that they were wearing slippers at the time.

    Colin Farrell. Alexander. Nuff Said.

I dont think the writers of Heroes are spastic enough to tie the various powers to local "traditions" etc. Surely they wouldnt stoop to such cliches?

Perhaps he could be an ex-politician... super power: ability to wriggle his way out of any tight spot?

    DeV.

Following on from that suggestion, I now have this image of a Haughey-lookalike as the Irish character. His powers of obfuscation so developed he didnt actually die! *cue Twilight Zone music*

Maybe Season 2 will star Ian Paisley as Dr. Doom with a sonic scream power. When he roars "ULSTER SAYS NO!!!", tectonic plates shift and bowels liquefy for a thousand miles in every direction.

Well Heroes certainly did a good job with Mohinder and his accent sounds excellent too (The actor doesn't sound like that at all)

But lots of American shows that really should know better have always made an utter balls of Ireland... so I don't hold out much hope for a character that isn't a walking cliché.

But I'm willing to be surprised.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Well the fact that he's an Irish gangster means we're already starting off in the new cliché for Irish-Americans.. not a good thing.

I imagine he'll resemble maybe the Irish "spirit" in "Rescue Me" - will like the old drink and some fightin'!

Maybe he'll be close to his family and *shudder* very religious and question God about his new powers. *Sigh*

He could do the voice-overs next year: "What is it that makes us what we are? What in our DNA makes us realize that we are more than can we be? Is it a pint of the black stuff? Is it potatoes?? Is it the voice of God touching us from above? Satan touching us from below? No, I believe it's none of these. I believe it's YORE MA!" That'd work.

The only way to solve this Irish accent thing is to get an Irish actor, or make this character Irish-American.

    /me thinks of Tom Cruise in Far and Away........ ;_;

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

    ;_;
    Theres a new one.

Even if they weren't Irish but had an Irish speech trainer - I would be content. Thats all they seemed to do for Boondock Saints (or not even) and it turned out to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. G'wan Sean Patrick Flannery.

The character being Irish though I am going to go for another of my famous (or infamous depending on your disposition) prediction/hypothisese by predicting that the character is going to be Irish Catholic and his power will be something to coincide with that - like being able to see wether someone is ultimately good or evil. That being the case him and Sylar would have a very interesting encounter.

People, people, people... we're all wandering off topic here. The real issue is that Claire is getting a boyfriend and millions of hearts around the world will break.

After a few sleepless nights, I realised that the part probably hasn't been cast yet. I rang up to offer myself for the role. I would be the perfect choice to play her boyfriend: not only am I very sexy, but when I say lines like "I love you Claire", it will be heartfelt and movingly true-to-life. I won't even have to act (but I'll still accept the Best Actor Emmy - no point in being a prick about it).

I've left 200 or so messages on Tim Kring's answering machine but I understand that he's a busy man and I will wait patiently for the inevitable reply. I'll keep ye posted.

This guy is going to play Claire's boyfriend. Bastard.
He's meant to have a 'very cool superpower'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭Agamemnon

Nonsense! That's not me. Don't believe everything you read. Tim Kring is giving the part to me. He just hasn't contacted me yet because he's extremely busy.

To speed up the process, I've been camping outside his house, waiting to catch him when he has a moment to spare. I've been calling to his front door every five minutes or so but he's never in. Some of his friends dressed in security guard uniforms answer the door and shock me with tasers, but there's no malice intended. They love their practical jokes, the Americans.

Just seen this posted at Digg.com:

Heroes : Season 2 Spoiler Roundup

    ** CONTAINS BIG SPOILERS...DUH!!! **

Contains some information on who lives and who dies.. article quoted below for easy reading:
The last couple of weeks have brought plentiful rumorage concerning what the next season of Heroes holds for fans. As NBC's hit approaches the beginning of its second season production, cast, crew, and the ever popular 'anonymous' have been spilling details left and right.

Who's dead, who survives, what are the new characters roles? All of these questions have been answered along with a few new ones that promise a new direction for Heroes. Most prominently the introduction of a new super villain that will eclipse Sylar in evil.

With that in mind, let the bullets fly!

    * Of the Heroes Origins episodes, writer Jeph Loeb told IFMagazine that some characters introduced in those episodes may not even live to join the frey! Can we assume we might finally learn the source of some of Sylar's powers?
    * Ever notice how cockroaches appear whenever Sylar is in trouble. Seems the bugs might be the minions of the thousand year old super evil dude Kane who joins Heroes this season. The part is rumored to be played by David Anders of Alias fame. Kane has a keen interest in young Sylar. Rescue bugs. Who knew!?
    * Nathan Lives! Adrian Pasdar confirmed multiple times while traveling with Masi Oka that Nathan will be back next season.
    * Ando will return. Hiro will spend a little time in the past to refine his skills under his personal Hero's tutorledge, but when he returns he will definitely return to Japan to rescue his buddy Ando from the cubicle jungles.
    * Hiro will find a love interest in feudal Japan, and may bring her back to the future with untold consequences. The part of Hiro’s damsel in distress may be played by none other than the recently crowned Miss Universe Riyo Mori.
    * As long as you have a character like Hiro, death is most certainly not the end for you on Heroes. On that note, expect to see more Isaac, Simone, and Simone's dad in season two as Peter (now equipped with time tripping abilities) journeys into the past to unravel the mystery left hanging by the season one finale.

I wonder if Brendan Gleeson would be up for some TV work.

The Hollywood Reporter has a full run-down on the six (!!) new characters to join the show for the second season.

There's one or two familiar faces from David Anders (who brillantly portrayed Julian Sark in 'Alias') and Barry Shabaka Hanley (who has a instantly recognisable face but most recently remember him in 'The Terminal' with Tom Hanks).

The Irish part has gone to an actor from "New Yawk" - Holt McCallany, but according to IMDB he attended school in Ireland though so hopefully there'll be a lack of "begorah's", "bejaysus", "potatoes.." and "they're always after me lucky charms".

    Full article below:
    Legion of super-'Heroes'

NBC's sci-fi drama "Heroes" is casting a wide net for next season, tapping Barry Shabaka Henley, Holt McCallany, "Alias" alum David Anders, Japanese pop star and actress Eriko Tamura, Lyndsy Fonseca and Dianna Agron for recurring roles.

Anders will play the most intriguing part, that of the ancient samurai warrior Takezo Kensei, Hiro Nakamura's (Masi Oka) childhood hero. While never seen during "Heroes' " first season, Kensei played a key part in the show's plot. Hiro spent most of the season trying to get ahold of Kensei's sword, which he hoped would help him in his quest to save the world.

In another Japanese connection, Tamura will play a Japanese princess.

Henley will play Detective Fuller, a New York police officer. McCallany will play Ricky, the ringleader of a group of Irish thugs.

Fonseca and Agron will play beautiful cheerleaders in Southern California, where Claire (Hayden Panettiere) is expected to move. Fonseca's character April is sweet, while Agron's Debbie is a mean girl.

"Heroes" extends Henley's relationship with NBC and Universal Media Studios. This past development season, he co-starred on David Shore's drama pilot for the network, which was produced by UMS. The actor, who next appears in the feature "The Horsemen," is repped by Bauman, Redanty & Shaul Agency and Rugolo Entertainment.

McCallany, who has been developing a feature that he is looking to direct, next appears in the feature "Vantage Point." He is repped by APA, manager Dave Fleming at Mosaic Media Group and attorney Rick Genow.

Anders, who played Julian Sark on ABC's "Alias," recently guest-starred on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." He also plays the title role in the feature "Eli." He is repped by SMS and Liberman/Zerman Management.

Tamura has starred in more than 15 Japanese features and TV series and has released 10 albums there. She made her English-language debut in the 2006 feature "Surf School."

The six join Nick d'Agosto, who recently landed a recurring role on "Heroes" next season, as well as Dania Ramirez, who was cast as a new regular.

Fonseca (HBO's "Big Love") is repped by Gersh and Sager Management.

Agron (the CW's "Veronica Mars") is repped by Gersh and Piper/Kaniecki Management.

I saw Holt McAloney in "Medium" a few months ago - he was pretty reasonable although his appearance isn't anything typically "Irish" - he looks very American. Also using a name like "Ricky"?! How many Irish people are called Ricky? Still better than "Seamus" (apologies to our mod!)

As to his Irish credentials, he has some at least. He attended school here and, digging around, I found that his dad was responsible for bringing "Borstal Boy" to Broadway, so he's had some exposure to Ireland. We might be okay. Begorrah.

Best post of thread: except after mine of course

As for the new Boyfriend, I could have been more surprised: they of course go for the one thats going to have every teenage girl fantasizing over him....the plus side of all that is that poor actor is in for a helluva fanfare. Cool Power though? Dispense Hair Gel from your crotch Ben Stiller Style? Screw it - this show needs more 'action' powers - give the kid fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his ass.

As for that big spoiler up there: If they exercise that last one - Im quitting the show. Its just stupid, predictable, and I won't stand or sit for it.

That Dianna Agron though ....... may make me forget about the whole thing.
