Just wondering if any one here has any experience of the Port Bourgenay Holiday Village.

We (hubby, 5 yr and 2yrold and I) are heading there in 2 weeks "Yippee"

    BUT

Cycle Hire. Is it better to strap our own bikes on the back of the car and live with the inconvenience of not being able to open the boot, or do we hire them out there. Seem to get different opinions from different ppl

    Thanks

    Blarney

    Blarney,

Did'nt stay on that site but stayed with P&V down in Moliets and twice in Cap d'Ail. Both places where fantastic and are very family orientated. If they have a kids club its worth while availing of it.

Our kids had a wonderful time. Did you book it direct or through a third party ?

booked direct.. brittany pirates wanted 1000 euro more to go on the same dates as irish ferries, I'll drive to Rosslare any day for a grand.

still not sure about the bikes though?

Yes, Brittany Ferries are expensive....But I've used Irish Ferries for about 5 years out of Rosslare. Each year the service got worse and worse. I know they have outsourced a lot of their operations on board, and this is certainly not the first impression I would ever want to give a tourist coming to Ireland. The cabins are very cramped, and very worn (The Normandy has already been sold and will finish up later this year, and will be replaced for next year).
After been charged for everything on board, even the milk to put on my cereal, I said enough is enough. It was a very low fares operation, but without the actual low fare to match.
I am surprised the fare difference is that much...unless Irish Ferries have plenty of capacity, due to a drop in sales. I know Brittany Ferries are just about sold out, and have very few places left in the peak season.
Anyone I spoke to who used Irish Ferries on this route, and later used Brittany Ferries said they would never go back. All expected to pay higher prices, but felt the actual product delivered matched the price.

On the subject on bikes + this site. it is really a choice about how much you will use them. I reckon you'll spend a lot of time on the beach, as it's right beside the site. However, if your apartment is out on the golf course, it might be handy to have a bike to cycle in to collect food etc.
But there's also the trouble of transporting them. I would suggest bring 1, and hire the rest. But if you had a very good cycle rack (i.e. connected to a tow bar), you might want to bring more. I know it's confusing!
    hope that helps.

We have used the Irish Ferries from Rosslare the last time was 3 years ago and coming back they routed around a storm that they knew was coming and everyone on board was sick. The service is terrible, two years ago we went through portsmouth doing landbridge and coming back we used a cabin, to say there was a difference is an understatement. We tried landbridge and now are going to use Brittany this year.
