is changing a single lnb to a double or quad one as simple as just switching them over or is there any alignment issues

There may be a slight misalignment depending on how well the dish is set up in the first place and what types of lnb's are being swapped. Make a note of your signal and quality readings before you change, its normal for the signal strength to drop but the quality should remain the same.

ebay is about the cheapest.... if its a sky dish there are loads on there...

I mentioned this elsewhere, you should pair your dish shape with the correct lnb optimised for that shape, ie elliptical optimised lnb for for elliptical dish (sky), circular offset for likewise (maplins/aldi etc).
Wrong type lnb may work but not as efficiently with worse results in rain etc

maplins/aldi, not the best, better off talking to a recognised dealer, satellite.ie etc.

Quad LNB currently down to €35

I know, ebay will still prolly be cheaper but you have the added benefit of dealing with a store of sorts, & you know you're getting it new too.
