Its probably cos its for family use then.

I like using Macs as much as the next person, but seriously, people will be computer illiterate and not realise what they are doing , get owned and become part of a bot net.
It doesnt happen as much on Macs becouse of BSD permissions and such, but the notion that somehow Apple write more secure software is flawed.

Apple does NOT make more secure software than Microsoft, the OSX security is inherited from BSD.

There is also the fact that 80 percent of computers run Windows, so, the attack vector is much larger and therefore people and organisations are willing to invest more time into breaking a windows box than a Unix box.

I am happy i changed to mac.

But some things never change, although i understand way more about computers now, thanks to been 6 months with mac than i did been a 8 year windows user, but anyway, i was poking around my computer today and came across this
Serial Box / Serial Seeker (Mac OS X)
what is this, it's something i do not understand is all i know.

If someone could explain in the plainest and simplest english. please, what this is, what it does and is it any good.

I wonder did it come with my computer cause i do not remember downloading it.

If you didn't install it, it didn't install itself -- it came preinstalled.
    Simple as.

although i can't be 100% sure i did not install it as i don't even know what i am doing most times. Most of what i know on computers is what i thought myself and what i took a guess at.

But is this Serial Box / Serial Seeker (Mac OS X) in anyone else applications folder?

serial box is something you must have downloaded....it definitly does not come pre-installed. It is a small database of serial numbers for all manner of mac apps. It is therefor not something apple would give away for free, and i'm sure its not really somehting you are allowed to discuss on boards as users of it are in breach of licencing laws.

As more people bought PC's, its more realistic to write viruses for it. I always have a giggle when I hear that if everyone got a MAC, it'd be more secure, as it wouldn't. If everyone got a MAC, people would write viruses for it. Virus writers want a big impact, and with Windows being used by corporations as well as home users, they achive this.

Finally, I like my PC as I can upgrade it to run the latest games. So so easy. Most MAC's are a b|tch to upgrade, though.

This would be considered warez and I can't imagine the mod of Mac would be happy about further discussion

Only a problem if you play games, as time has gone by and I've gotten older I've really stopped playing games for the most part.

Of course I still have my old Windows machine but I'm so impressed with my new Macbook I'll likely replace my old Windows desktop with a brand spanking new iMac or whatever is available at the time :)

Hell I'm the mod of Windows and I'm not slating Mac, how strange is that :)

If you have an Intel based Mac you might want to check out the upcoming version of Parallels Desktop for Mac 3 as it will allow you to run PC games as they have enabled 3D graphics. :Dhttp://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/06/01/parallels-dekstop-3-0-on-the-way/
