First day of the hurricane season and we have our first tropical storm. The reason it does not begin with A is that we had a subtropical system earlier in may.

Barry was welcomed by most over a parched SE of the US.West palm beach recorded over 7 inches of rain(approx 175mm) in Florida and most off the SE region including the carolinas and Georgia got between 4-6inches.This area has been plauged by wild fires over the last 3 months due to lack of rain and unseasonal warmth.Welcomed by firefighters.

Yup, I've been following that drought for a while now and that rain was *really* needed. Many lakes there are at their lowest recorded level and those fires burnt massive areas of land. Even after 7 inches of rain fell yesterday they are saying the drought will still be in effect because there is such a deficit from normal since the start of the year. Apparently 30-40 inches of rain are needed to bring things back to normal.

Oh somehow i think this year they will achieve that goal of 30-40inches of rain and probably more the way they are forecasting tropical weather.
