I signed up with eumetsat on the 12th of May for free 1/2 hourly satellite images and got my license and login details back today.
The images are downloaded via ftp(over the internet) but are not in jpeg format and then the free software that they supply converts them. The images are usually out around 15 after the time they were taken. It's an amazing service seeing as it's free. I'm still messing around with the software but the results are pretty impressive so far. Here's 2 samples i did from earlier,

You can register here if you're interested

and the free software is here

Unfortunately the license seems to take aound 2 and half weeks to come through but it's well worth the wait;)

Sounds interesting trogdor. A couple of q's-
Are the images you get of high quality, like saturn.unibe.ch quality?
Can you decide when to download the images or does the software keep doing it automatically when you don't want it to?

Btw the 2nd link you posted wont work for me, is it because i'm using firefox?

First of all, the images are fairly high quality, nearly the same as saturn.unibe.ch quality, you can see the images in the second pic, some of my text got stuck onto the end of the url, i've fixed the original post now. Here's the actual link again

You decide when you download, you need to use an ftp client like filezilla, you'll be glad to know it's free too;) . It's generally used to transfer files to and from your website. They give you login details and the server to put into the program and then you can pic the files you want to donwload.

I'm amazed that a free service as good as this isn't more widely used, going by the stat counter on the software page in my first post very few people have access
