Anyone know how I might go about becoming a donor? Do we even have sperm banks here? Has anyone here ever donated? Any info would be much appreciated. I've been googling, but to little avail. Cheers.

Sperm donation? Why not cut out the middle man and make a direct deposit?

Why do you want to be a sperm donor ? This isn't exactly a personal issue.

In the UK there is now a national shortage of sperm donors ever since the rules were changed and children from those donations can find out their biological father. I am sure it will only be a short step from there to you have to pay maintenance for them

I do recall a case in sweden i think. Where a lesbian couple used the sperm from a friend to have a child. Th lesbian cuple split and the guy was taken to court and DID have to pay maintainence..it was a few years ago now.

    OK that was OT somewhat

If nothing of use is posted I will have a rummage and move forums, you might have better luck OP.

Ouch. Eh, I think I'll be going for the totally confidential approach.

I feel that if women are going to go for this artificial insemination anyway, they may as well have a wider choice of seed.

It's an issue cause I don't know how to go about doing it and I'd like to, and it's personal cause it applies to me, I guess. I don't really care where you want to put this to be honest.

Not looking to be a father.

So if that's any questions answered, does anybody have any information on the topic?

We don't have sperm banks in Ireland. We used to import most sperm used in fertility clinics from Britain, but with changes in legislation there (any Irish children of IVF treatment from British sources can seek details of their fathers origin from age 18). Of late most of the fertility clinics (there are several) have been using Danish sperm (Cryos being the biggest company). Danish sources are particularly in demand for a number of reasons, not least donor confidentiality, extremely thorough screening of donors, genetic characteristics (blond hair, blue eyes etc.)

So disgusting how men can't er..make a donation...without worrying that 20 years down the line an adult is going to knock at the door and say "Daddy!".

Fair enough, retain their details *confidentially* in case any offspring have a genetic illness etc but it's just horrifying that anonymous doners could now be contacted by the result of a deposit in a cup looking to have a relationship or even for a blood or organ donation.

Perhaps you should go to the UK to seek a donor, it is more common there and many Australians donate to make some spare cash.
