Intermittent "No Satellite Signal being received"

Over the past week or so, occassionally when I switch to certain channels (all the Sky Sports channels & Nick Jr (Ch 618)), I've been receiving the "No Satellite Signal being received" message. If I flick around the channels, eventually (anything from 1 to 5 minutes later), these channels are suddenly available again.

It doesn't seem to be weather related.

The Signal Quality & Signal Strength bars are both up at about 75%. It is a Grundig box which is about 4 or 5 years old.

    Any advice ?

    Thanks.

Could be receiver, or maybe LNB not switching like it should.

    Thanks byte.

    1) If it's the receiver, does that mean the box is dying & I should replace it. (I'm planning to get a Sky+ box soon anyway, so if that's it, now could be a good time).

    2) If it's the LNB not switching, does that mean the LNB should be replaced ?

    Thanks.

If the LNB is not switching, then it's knackered and needs replacing.

If you're planning getting Sky+, you'll need a new LNB (Quad) anyway, so you'll be eliminating both possibilities!

    It's more likely the box.

    Thanks for the replies.

I already have a quad lnb and it is only about 2 years old. I'll go with the box theory.

If one sources a box without going through SKY, does one have to contact SKY to marry the Card to the new box ?

    Thanks again.

With a Grundig, the power supply capacitors need to be replaced every three years or so. You can get a kit which is easy to fit (if you can solder).

Thanks Sam...that's interesting. Where can I source such a kit ?

    Try Googling Grundig PSU kit.

I think there may be a more widespread problem here. I have NO sports channels anymore, no Sky 1, 2 or 3....... Biography channel etc. Checking other forums it appears Sky are aware of it (Although they wont officially admit it) It seems to have something to do with the introduction of Sky Anytime. BTW My signal quality and strengths are in the 60% region..... Any one have any other ideas? The digibox works fine on a friends dish about 20 miles away.

Could it be trees in the way? My dad had the same problem last week. Picture breakup over a few weeks but got much worse last week during a windy period. We thought the dish was moving but on checking it, it was fine. Then I noticed who one tree top was just in line with the dish. Up the tree with the bushman an took the top off it. 100% improvement since. I guess its the extra groth over the las month.

That's interesting. What other forums ? Is yours a Grundig box ?

It seems to be the same channels with me as with you. The Sports Channels, the SKY channels & Nick Jr are ones I am aware of. Mine aren't off all of the time, but they go into "No Satellite signal being received" for a few minutes when you flick on them sometimes. They do come back.
