Tent Question

Hi, I recently bought a 2 man tent its main use being for festivals over this summer and hopefully more. It is an easy camp Torino 200. I noticed it said this on the Cleaning an Maintanence Tips card with it.

"We recommend to set up the tent on a PVC mat to avoid condensation on the inside of the flysheet.

The flysheet is made of water-repellent material. To prevent water from seeping through the flysheet, avoid touching the inside surface in rainy weather."

Does anyone know if I can get one of these in an outdoor shop or what. I really didnt think I wouod have to go buying more crap for it after spending 55euro opn it. I thought it was all water proof.

It's just the laws of physics dragging us back to reality I'm afraid. I wouldn't be too pushed about getting the mat, a bit of condensation will be the least of your worries during any festival!

And the bit about not touching the inside of the flysheet holds true for tent also, and I spent a bit more than €55 on it ;)

Can you tell me if it means the condensation will be on the tent where I lie downb? If so then I will be worried that would be the last thing I want at a frestival. Dont wanna wake up in a pool of water wet and sick sleeping at festivals is rough enough.

I am not quite sure what they mean by having a PVC mat under the groundsheet of the tent. The only reason I ever used a sheet under my groundsheet was to protect the bottom of the tent from sharp sticks in a forest and from rocks in the mountains.

You're going to get condensation in a tent at any time of year, at least I always have. It's no biggy. Just open it up next morning and drape your sleeping bags over the outside of the tent until they both have an adequate airing. Keep a close eye on things though.

And whatever the hell you do make sure you have some type of foam mat or Thermarest for lying on inside the tent. Those things are worth their weight in gold!
No matter how langered you get you'll be lost without one. Enjoy the trip!

The condensation generally hangs around the waterproof layer of the tent as it generally gets through the fly sheet. So the fly sheet itself should hopefully be dry, but if you press it against the waterproof layer the water is just going to soak through the material and then you'll get wet.
Just try and make sure you don't have any bags pressing against the fly-sheet and then onto the waterproof layer.

At a festival try and either get your tent as close as possible to the person next to you or make the guide ropes as short/tight as possible. You don't want to make the gap between your tent and your mates tent to appear as some sort of handy passage way as you'll get idiots not only stepping on your tent but also probably falling on it.

Oh, and whatever you do... don't burn your tent after the festival! I'm not saying I think you would, but loads of idiots do it after ****** and it's not only dangerous but a right head**** for the environment!

''Moisture mate'' can be found at nearly every hardware/ outdoor shop it contains CaCl2 and will absorb the moisture from any enclosed area
