Sky + without a landline

I was hoping to get Sky + but my provider reckons I need a landline. I already have Sky without a landline and it works just fine - apart from the interactive services.

I don't want the extra expense of a landline if I get Sky +. Is my provider correct? Do I need a landline and if so is there a way around it?

    Cheers for the advice.

You need to get and install the Sky+ yourself and then ring and upgrade your existing sky card.

If they won't updgrade just get them to pair the card as from July the Sky+ will work without extra subscription (but not on no sub, for recording feature).

The existing box will work without a card as Free to Air, and can be switched to UK EPG with all missing BBC/ITV on it

Cheers, yeah I heard they are dropping the subscription in July. If I do as you say will I need a landline though or will I be okay?

Do as Watty says. No need for a landline. Ive had Sky+ now for 3 years with no landline!!

does providing and installing all the sky+ hardware yourself and then pairing your existing sky card to a sky + box enable all the sky+ features?

Once July comes I'll end up getting a box on ebay and will most likely go this route. Is it sufficient to just tell sky that you've now got a sky+ box?

Currently, you need to repair the card, and activate the Sky+ feature. I've done this a few months ago with a Sky+ from eBay, had no problems getting activation. I have no phoneline connected. Phoneline is really only enforced when you're buying the box new and subsidised.

You have to swap your existing single LNB with a Quad LNB. Usually, it's just a case of swapping, though on rare occasions, the Quad might alter alignment of dish/LNB arm.

Then you'll need a second run of CT100 or equivalent cable from the Quad LNB to the back of receiver (Sky+ uses two cables from dish). The Quad will have two spare ports for connecting another Sky+ box or 2 Sky/FTA boxes.

Sorry, should have put a hypen in between - ie. re-pair.

A viewing card is "paired" with one Sky box. When you swap the card to another box, some channels (mainly Premium's like Sky Movies etc) will not work until you ring Sky and have the card paired to the new box.

    ah.. magic :D

I'll probably stick with my existing sub till July/August but get the installer to put a quad lnb and an extra run of cable on the dish at the new house. At some stage I'll get a + box on ebay, install it and give sky a buzz to see what happens. Any chance they'd be suspicious that I didn't get the box off them?

Have you read this thread at all?

Although I found it hard deciphing your post, I think I have the gist of it.

You can install Sky+ on-site and have your card paired to Sky+ box on-site.

Sky+ can be installed "DIY" if you have a relatively good head for cabling.

I understand that you can get SKY Multiroom via the Sky+ option, in otherwords, Sky will provide you with a Multiroom service with the new box basically being a Sky+ box, Does anybody know how much the monthly rental on such a box is???

    Thanks.

Sky Multiroom is €15 per extra box.
