Just looking for some up to date info if anyone can help...............

I was looking into getting a DVB-S2 card a while back but never got around to doing it.

I am now again ready to do so, and was wondering where the tech was at this stage. I remember i would have been able to recieve BBC HD at the time, have they stopped this now as at the time it was only a trial...............

Have any more HD channels come on line (FTA)?

Any suggestions on a good DVB-S card, I was wanting one with two tuners.......Is it worth getting a DVB-S2?

How do DVB-S cards interact with Media Center?

Any help or pointers would be great......Thanks

I think plain XP with 3rd party SW is better than Media Center. It's orintated to UK & US and Terrestrial TV.

You need a 1920 x 1080 or 1920x1600 50Hz display. Unfortunately in HD resolutions many PCs only to 60Hz which makes the picture jerky or blurry as it is 1080i.

BBC HD has 4 or 4 hrs every evening and demo loops rest of time.

The Technotrend DVB-S2 & SW works fine on XP for BBC HD.

You need 2GHz + CPU and X1600 or better graphics.

You can stick in two cards itenditcal Technotrend DVB-S2. If doing DVB-S card like SS2 etc, install it first.

The only other HD FTA channels are on German TV (19E). There won't be much to watch till maybe Dec2007 or Feb 2008.

Unless you are going to sit 2ft to 4ft ft away from screen, you needs a 42" or bigger screen otherwise HD is fairly much a waste. As are "budget" 1366x768 or worse "HD Ready" TVs.

You might want an HDMI output graphics card because oddly some HD Ready TVs only do lower resolution on VGA!

All HD is/will be 1080i Even for disks in Europe 1080p is not significant as it only removes 24fps pull down artifacts on US DVD (30i to 60p). The films are 24fps so 1080p50 in europe gives no improvement over 1080i25. IDENTICAL sharpness/resolution.

There will unlikely to ever be 1080p broadcast as it needs twice the data for no extra sharpness. p compared with i only benefits very rapid movement.
