I read on Wikipedia that the reason he left lost was because he lost both parents in 2005. Someone on imdb.com heard they both died in a fire.

Well rumour was that he bumped heads a lot with the cast, especially Terry. And his off-set behavior was becoming a concern also. Though I suspect a lot of this was due to his parent's death. Mitchell is one of the few members of the cast I've heard say anything good about him, but she's so nice she'd get along with anyone .

As I recall it was for driving without a license but the charges were later dropped. At least half the cast has been cited for speeding or some other traffic violation by now.
