Hi there, i have set-up the master-password on my pc which is very handy, but how do i briefly turn it on & off, as my brother wants to use gmail & the master password comes up, but i dont want to enter mine as it gives access to everything, & it became a bit of a nuisance as every time you put in a letter the MP came up!

Any ideas would be handy, as i dont want to not use it for anyone's sake

BTW: im using ver 2.0.0.3 (but was asked today to update to latest ver. to answer a previous post)

    Hello Standbyme,

Try using Firefox profiles. Then your brother can use his own bookmarks, master password or whatever and you can do your own thing too.

This site explains it very well, even down to customising your own individual Firefox desktop shortcuts to point to your different profiles.

    Good luck.

Cheers Bartleby, for that info as it looks very useful ;)

But my brother doesnt live here as he's married & no broadband :(
he'd only want to check it now & again, as i dont think he'd wait around to do all that
I've also told him if he was checking his gmail, he can check it out on his mobile as the details are on the bottom of the page, i think i've got to remind him or show him how to do it!

But any more info would be greatful!

    Hello Standbyme,

If your brother only needs access occasionally, then goto |tools |options| security| and turn it off for him before he uses it. This is pretty messy though.

I'd say the best option is to run the profile manager once:

    Start|Run| => enter "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" --profilemanager => click "OK".

Create a profile called brothersname or whatever. Make sure "Don't ask at startup" is ticked. Click on "Exit".

Then right-click on your desktop, goto |New|Shortcut|

    Enter:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p brothersname

as the location and "brothersname" as the shortcut name.

(Make sure brothersname is in the same case in Profile and file location/path. Its case-sensitive.)

Click "Finish" and you should have a Firefox Icon on your desktop named after your brother. When your brother double-clicks on this icon it will bring him into a clean version of Firefox with no Masterpassword and you could set his homepage as www.gmail.com.

He has his Firefox profile, you have yours. You access your profile using the normal Firefox icon.

As far as I know, there's no easier way of doing it. Let me know if I'm missing something.
