Lost Season Three Letdowns

i found this article at TVsquad. http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/05/31/lost-season-three-letdowns/

Season Three of Lost had some of the best episodes in the show's history, but no season is perfect. From bad flashbacks to bizarre death fake-outs, this season had its shortcomings. No one can nitpick like a Lost fan, so let's get started! Feel free to share your Season Three criticisms as well.

So Long, Eko: After Season Two ended, I thought that the writers would take a break from the Tailie-killing. Eko was one of my favorite new characters, and I had hoped that he would stick around a bit longer. What really bugged me about Eko's death was that fact that he survived the hatch implosion only to get killed by the Monster five episodes into Season Three. I know that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje wanted out of the show, but his death seemed so random.
The Winter Hiatus: Several of my favorite shows went the midseason hiatus route this year, and it was like death. Jericho was basically destroyed by its hiatus, and the winter break did some harm to Lost as well. The first part of Season Three almost felt like its own mini-season. For my money, the break could have worked had it been a few weeks shorter. I'm definitely looking forward to a break-free Season Four.

Nikki and Paulo: I actually liked the idea of seeing past Lost seasons through the eyes of the other 815 survivors, but Nikki and Paulo were a disaster. Perhaps it was the way they were introduced--as though they had always been a part of the group--that rubbed fans the wrong way. All of a sudden, there they were. Going on outings with Sayid and the A-Team. Sassing Sawyer at the ping-pong tournament. Who would have thought that Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro, two incredibly gorgeous actors, would be unwelcome on a show with so much eye candy?

Guest Star Bai Ling: "Stranger in a Strange Land" featured one of the worst flashback sequences of all time, and Bai Ling was largely to blame. There didn't seem to be any chemistry between Bai Ling and Matthew Fox, and their romantic scenes merely caused me to roll my eyes. The woman has destroyed every role, every TV episode, and every film that I've seen her in. I'll give a million dollars to anyone who can reasonably explain this woman's appeal.

The Island and Sperm Count: Season Three answered a lot of questions about DHARMA, the Others, and the island in general. The oddest revelation had to be that a man's sperm count is five times greater on the island. I can handle a four-toed statue, but super-sperm? I still don't know what to think. This fact seemed to exist only to explain Sun's pregnancy, which was another less-than-compelling plot development. I'd have no problem with the writers ignoring this detail in later seasons.

Mikhail's Nine Lives: When Locke threw Mikhail into the sonic fence, it was one of the coolest death scenes I'd ever witnessed. Unfortunately, Patchy wasn't really dead. It's one thing to leave a character in peril to create suspense, but making him look dead only to bring him back later is frustrating. Compare Mikhail's "death" with Locke's gunshot wound in "The Man Behind the Curtain." We didn't see Locke die, but he looked hurt enough for fans to be worried. His reappearance in the season finale was thrilling. Mikhail just looked dead, and his reappearance was explained in an unremarkable bit of dialogue. Patchy pulled another fake death when Desmond spear-gunned his chest, only to kill himself with a hand grenade minutes later. If he shows up alive in Season Four, I'm out (OK, not really).

Keep an eye out for a Lost highlights post! In the meantime, post your own criticisms below.

I have to agree with almost everyone of them except for Nikki and Paulo, I secretly at the time really liked them and I enjoyed Exposé.

The only one on that list that really bothered me was Eko's death. It was a well written send-off imo, it just came a bit too early in the season, especially seen as how most of the tailies had already gotten wiped out in season 2. But the rumour was Adewale was becoming difficult so the writers didn't have much choice.

The mid-season hiatus was a unmitigated disaster however and ABC's promo department was outrageously out-of-control, spoiling and over-hyping every episode causing the fans to get all wound-up. If I didn't know better I'd think ABC was deliberately trying to sabotage the show. But I think those first 6 episodes + the 3 that followed will play much better on dvd minus the hype machine and 3 month wait.

Well Stranger in a strange land in general was just a disaster in general. I usually always enthralled by Lost but I found myself seeing how long was left for that one.

I don't agree with nikki and Paulo, I really liked expose and it had such a fantastically dark ending.

My mother gripe would be the cliffhanger to winter break just wasn't all that good especially when you compare it to the season ending cliffhanger. It just seem a bit forced.

I think we can all agree the highlight of Season 3 was when we had a flash of Kate in her thong as she was getting dressed in Sawyers' tent. Booyah.

The only gripe I had with season 3 was that I'm now used to Lost. Things that were uncovered this season failed to amaze me ( bar the finale ) whereas before I'd have been all "OMG WTF!?!".

Scojones why do you even bother posting?
We're trying to have a decent conversation about Lost and all you can think of is Kates thong
I've noticed that a lot of Lost forums start off really intersting but then a few idiots start posting REALLY irrelevant stuff that's just idiotic.

Kate's thong was not irrelevant and not idiotic. HOW DARE YOU INSULT HER THONG.

patchy's not dead, and kate's thong is extremely relevant.

On the nikki and Paulo thing. I really didn't like the way they introduced the characters into it, bit silly to imagine we just didnt see them before.
I didn't let it get to me much and I did enjoy their episode. Complete filler, but a bit on the dark side with a killer ending.

i'd have to say that while "stranger in a strange land" was easily the worst episode of the season, the fact that they put so much emphasis on jack and his tatoos and didnt give as any pay off for this annoyed me slightly...

other letdowns? jacob, four toed statue, didnt really learn a huge amount about dharma or the island itself.. it's all coming though (hopefully!)

Nikki & Paulo did my head in... And yeah, wasn't too fussed on that Stranger in a Strange Land ep...

My whinge would be that they never fully explained how the hatch blew up but the 3 survived.

The cable in the sand that no one thought of following out to sea annoyed me as well.

Jacob? A let down? I loved that scene! And I think we did learn a good deal about DHARMA and a bit about the island too.

Wasn't annoyed about the sperm count (is kinda ironic though, that women can't conceive on the island :) ) but the rest of them were let downs.. especially Nikki and Paulo. Two pointless characters who were introduced terribly and they wrecked my head! Kinda cool that they were buried alivbe though!

It was sad to see Eko dead but I thought the scene with the black smoke killing him was fantastic! I think his death is very relevant as well...

I'm gonna give Lost the benefit of the doubt with the whole Patchey thing as well..

But there's no excuse for Stranger in a Strange Land. Awful television..
