Ah! Your looking at one of those cars! They are impervious to normal market valuations. Just be glad its not an M3 then your eyes would water. :)

    Mike.

But it has an "M" badge !!

(and dodgy 5-series rear lights, if I'm not mistaken)

Even if it wasn't pink, and had original wheels, and hadn't been lowered, and hadn't got an ill-fitting body kit etc., it still wouldn't be worth €10k.

It would be a nice car, but not worth that. Mental money.

Have to agree that in its current state, it is absolutely awful.

The funny thing is, the owner may well have paid a lot of money for that car and then spent a lot more on it to bring it to its present state. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it actually stood him €10,000 all in.

10 grand to buy that - keep dreaming mate!

Maybe so, but it still isn't worth anywhere near that. If it had been restored rather than ruined it would certainly be worth nearer asking.

    (It's not yours, is it? :o )

if you are looking for a nice older 3 series something like this would probably be a better bet

I completely agree, I was just speculating as to how the owner may have come to believe that it was worth €10,000.:)

    people always do this, example
they think, right i bought the car 1 years ago for €8000, i spent €2000 on tyres and new parts since then, the alloys cost me €1000 and the bodykit cost €2000, it cost me €13000 in total, so my car must be worth €10000, thats a bargin!
    Dreaming:rolleyes:

To be fair though, an E30 is worth a lot more than an E36.

One would hope so! I recently sold a very nice 1988 E30 325iSE auto with leather, a/c etc to a friend for €3,800. A manual sport would be worth more, but mine was a straight, original car in excellent condition.

You did well! Mind if that car is kept in the same condition, it won't reall depreciate any further

For some reason most E30s (and not just M3s) have shot up in value over the last few years

carzone is full of these - you will find some sensibly priced e30's (around 3/4k) and then there's the likes of the aforementioned and this! - http://www.usedcars.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=566259
this was around €36k in january, wonder why he lowered the price. (granted he spent under 50k to get it to this shape, but you'd get an e46 m3 for this money)

I'm selling a 4 door E30 on adverts at the moment, for some reason the 2 doors appear to be far more common, and in far greater demand.

I'm not asking 10 g's for mine though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

i know, i was interested til i saw the 2 extra doors!!

i don't have any kids (yet) and rarely carry more than 1 passenger, so i'll settle for a coupe for the time being!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

Heh heh. I get that a good bit!

The 2 doors are very very popular, personally, I think the 4 door is more proportioned, but you know what they say, different strokes...

I can't say as to why the coupe is so much more popular though.

Might I advise, if you can get one, a 318is is the way to go. Nice bit of power and a bit less for the taxman :)

"bucks" (a user on here) has had two lovely examples, both imported himself, and has a nice little website specialising in E30 discussion.

If you'd like the address, just drop me a PM.

bucks red 318is was a work of art.

And a great value motor too.

It even had the window blind in the back.

If you want an E30 OP, that's what you should be aiming for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,326 ✭✭✭ciarsd

There is a bit of a cult following for E30 325 Sports (well more so the LSD it comes equipped with)... bit like the Toyota 'Tin Can' cult brigade, hence the silly prices being quoted. Best bet is to do it yourself and import one, this way you will get a clean example for decent money that is 95% guaranteed not to have the sh!t diffed out of it.

P.S the OP's link to an advert could've been worse... try this: http://www.usedcars.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=566259

    Up for sale months now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

I've heard the e30 318is is the best 4 cylinder to go for (bar the m3) - I'd be tempted, but would prefer a 6 cylinder - the cost of tax wouldn't really put me up or down (my next car is all dependant on me selling my e36 318is!)

Can you post bucks url roundey?

?? It looks bad in the photos, not good. And the ad doesn't make it sound great either.

    This is mine:

I drove an M3 and knew that I had to get my behind into an e30. I knew there was no way I could insure an M3, so after talking to a friend who's owned M3s, 325i Sports and a 318iS's, he told me his old 318iS was his favourite out of the lot. I bought this one after 3 months searching for the right car. It has absolutely no problem keeping up with 325i Sports, and handles like a dream.

I was going to go for a 325i Sport, but when I did the sums, the 318iS made so much more sense. Insurance is only €1100TPFT for me, 22 1 year NCB, tax is €580ish I think and it's great on juice (worst ive seen is 28mpg, cruising at anywhere between 40 and 65, I'm seeing 40+mpg), 90mph (on private roads of course) is bang on 30mpg.

I have a company car too, and I've considered selling it loads of times, but everytime I drive it I realise I cant sell it.

    Buy a 318iS folks :D

Very nice, commited-a bit of a change from your last machine :)

land9, E30 discussion aplenty can be found on E30owners.com

I was a bit slow to post the URL until I realised that it was mentioned here a few times in the past anyway. I'm a member there myself, although I haven't posted in a while-and have found it very helpful. Would recommend to a friend.

Best of luck with your search.

I had no love for them until I drove one. Coming from a car renound for its handling, a Mini, I found that the e30 handles even better and can chew up long journeys comfortably.

My advice is, if you enjoy driving, go and see what all the fuss is about :)

e30 = drivers car, sucessive 3 series are for "owning" not driving. If you see what I mean.
