New computer-can't log on

My dad just got a new laptop for work and he gave it to me to "get it up and running". I turned it on and Windows ran through the setup. It picked a name for the computer (some really long yoke full og letters and numbers, felt nervous about changing it so I didn't bother) and then asked to to choose a password for the Administrator account. Then it finished up and the very familiar screen of "press ctrl+alt+delete to begin" greeted me.
But when I do this it asks for a user name and password. There is no account on this and when I put in Administrator and the password I selected at set-up it tells me that it's incorrect and that I'm to check the domain or user name and retype the password. He needs this by tomorrow so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Are you sure you're logging onto the computer instead of the domain?

When you are typing the username and password, is there a third line? If so, make sure it's set to the one that's the name of the computer, and should say (this computer) after it. If so, the username Administrator and the password you selected should work.

One other thing to check on a laptop is whether the NumLock is on, although if you were able to type Administrator that should be okay.

Try using "Owner" as the account name, and the password you entered for administrator

About half an hour ago (yes, I have been trying all this time), a colleague of my dad phoned. He gave him a password and a username (which coincidentally turned out to be Administrator). Apparently he had the same problem and phoned Dell to get some help. They were able to give him the password list for all the new machines.
I can't work out how this occured though. I know that Dell had to "play" with them before they were released because of special software packages that had to be put on the machines, but I don't see why I had to go through the setup in this case.
Anyway, crisis averted. Control of the computer was handed over to my dad after I upgraded the basic security settings (particulalry glad I password protected a second Admin account that I couldn't delete).
    Thanks for all your help.
