    Hi all,
hope this is in the right place. I'm heading to the states in July, hoping to see and photograph alot of amazing things; Grand Canyon, San Fran, Yosemite etc. I've been on the market for a decent camera for a while but haven't made the plunge. i've had my eye on the Fuji Finepix S series, particulary the S5600 or the S6000(S6500fd). I see the s6000 is priced at E266 on pixmania. I'll be stopping in Boston for a few days before california and was wondering if anyone knows would i beat the pixmania price significantly over there.
    Cheers
    MMM

Most of my camera equipment was bought in the US, and saved me almost half the price. Well worth shopping for that there.

Well if you are visiting someone you know then you could just order a camera online from B&H photo in New York ... have it shipped to you firiends place (well in advance of your trip) ... and pick it up ...

this way you avind NY state tax of about 8.7% ... and you get a good price from a very reputible dealer ... and if you are worried about warranty just get one from Mack ... also available from B&H ... or www.mackcam.com

What camera to buy ? ... well that depends on your budget ... but pop into Conns and play with a few of theirs and then hand the one you intend to buy back to the man with a smug smile in the knowledge that you are about to get it for 50% of the price he is asking :p

Altearnatively pop over the border from Boston to New Hampshire wherethey don't have state tax ... there is a great mall in Nashua ...

Last year I bought my Nikon D200 and looked into buying in the US.

The price in B&H was only a few percent less than buying it in Dublin. Just because you buy it in the US does not mean you automatically get a huge saving. On some items this is true, but unless the saving is large it is not always worth the hassle, especially with the warranty issue.

Gunne camera shop on Wexford Street was able to give me a very good price, which at the time was a couple of hundred euro saving on Conns or Bermingham (Conns was the most expensive). I like Conns, but they do tend to charge (being next to BTs and all).

So you may well get a bargain, but check out local prices first.

hey all, thanks for the help. I'm not going to be in NY, just Boston and California, but i may look into having B$H ship to a US address. I really want to have a good camera for the sights in Yosemtie, Grand Canyon etc so hopefully i'll get sorted.
Fenster, looking forward to Vegas alright, any ideas on must see activities would be great. Grand Canyon heli trip and the shooting gallery sound like good ones
