I was in Argos today and they have a 6 day sale that ends on Monday.
There is some very could half price deals.
The best I think is an Acoustic Twin Screen 7inch DVD player for car 93Euro.
They were 180. I bought one, as need it to keep the kids entertained on long journeys during the summer.

Thats a great price - have been on the lookout for one of these - any chance you would know the cataloge number as just checked the one from the UK website and coming up at 200+ - if i can find an Argos with it in stock can hopefully pick of these up and buy a bit of peace and quiet in the car for the summer!

    Cheers ;)

I think it is a good price. Acoustic solutions are not a great name but for that price!!
    The catalogue number is 500/0139

    link to product;
looks good especially if they can be fitted into headrests instead of wrapping around them

Many thanks for the link - always find the Argos website incredibly difficult to navigate! :o

Have it reserved for pick up in Liffey Valley now! ;)

    How did you reserve it.?

I put that code into argos.ie and couldn't find the product to reserve

AFAIK The Irish Argos website doesn't do electronics and some other types. You have to ring and reserve.

Yeah, I did a ring and reserve and no problem.
Any chance that it can read DVD-R?
DonJose, You are linking to a different model.
    This the correct link

Thanks I phoned and reserved it for €93, great find, thanks.

I reserved this online , the price was 189.99 , do they apply the discount when you pickup ?

There must be some mistake. When you reserve in says "todays price is 93Euro"
Are you sure you used the right catalogue number.

You need to phone 01 2161616

You'll need the catalog number 500/0139

You'll also need the 3 digit store code http://tinyurl.com/34zohw

Tried the Waterford store but all sold out, however, there seems to be some stocks of these in the Kilkenny store. Seems like an excellent deal. Thanks OP.

Just collected mine - and up and running :)

Gonna be a life saver - very pleased with it - thanks OP!

Just finished putting the twin screens in the car for tomorrows journey to the west coast. The quality is very good. There is a bag for storage and there is every type of lead that you could need. The bag and leads alone are nearly worth the money.
I can't wait to see the young fellas face when I drop him to school and Shrek 2 comes on. He wont want to get out of the car.

I have just reserved this with the local store but its going to be tomorrow before I can collect. The message on the reserve line stated that product prices can vary from day to day. Im just wondering if it would happen to be a different price in the store tomorrow will I still be able to get it at today's price seeing as I reserved it today

I'm collecting mine tomorrow also, I hope the price remains the same as the OP stated, "6 day sale that ends on Monday". Sounds like a bargain.

Reserved mine too. Picking it up tommorow.

Does anyone know what way the power works? Is it a split cigarette lead to power both units? Also, how long is the cable?

    Thanks!

Looks like the Waterford store got some in this morning also. There was none on the ring and reserve last night for there, but seem to be some there today.

Just picked up mine, great value. The carry case is excellent.

Also got one this morning. Seems like excellent value. Only problem though, is there does not seem to be a region free hack for it. Anyone else have any luck finding a hack for it?

Who said that you should never judge a book(or box in this case) by its cover.
Although the box shows them as white, when I opened it up they are actually silver.

See post #13. You can check stock level at various stores

Bought two of these today in Longford Argos, and I have to say I'm sickened with them. Very poor.. neither will work off the cigarette power in either car they were intended for, the adapter just won't sit into one of them, and just not a gig out of the other one. Working off the mains power, they work fine. IF you dont touch or breath on the cable!! Now call me an idiot, but hang that cable down in front of a two year old and you have to expect that he'll brush against it once in a while. But no, if you even look crooked at the cable on either of the units I bought, it stops working. They're going straight back, they're ridiculously bad.

:) I wish!!! A toyota and a nissan. We like 'em asian round our way!

And yeah, I'd imagine they are faulty, but two units? Not good odds. Wouldn't trust them again, to be honest. Pity, though, when they were working, sound and display was pretty sweet.

Just a note that you wont get your money back under the 16 day rule that Argos have as these don't fall into that category but you should be able to get a replacement

It's looking increasingly likely that I won't need to, there's a good chance that I'm just an idiot. My husband got it working fine off the mains last night with no flickery screen, said something about me not pushing the cable in far enough :o If it is the same deal with the car charger thingy, then we're sorted :)

On an aside, and on the wrong forum too, surely it wouldn't need to fall into the 16 day money back scheme if it was broken - doesn't the sale of goods and supply of services act cover you there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,555 ✭✭✭✭muffler

When I plugged mine into the cigarette lighter compartment in the car I had the same problem but if you turn it round a bit and push it in hard it will be fine. I have a separate charger in the car and I use it now instead.

The point I was making about not getting your money back was that Argos have a 16 day, no questions asked, return and refund facility for most of their items but this item is excluded. You are of course entitled to have it repaired, replaced or money refunded under the manufacturer's guarantee.

Have to say I'm surprised to hear about the ciggarette lighter adapter. I thought this was going to cause me problems as my car has a tendency to require the adaptor in a very precise position....but its worked flawless from the first power up.

Mare....... been looking out for these for last couple of months and missed the offer......... :(:(

It does appear that I'm just stupid, though, hubby got it working first time. I'm surprised, because I couldn't get mine working, my sister also couldn't get hers working. Hubby gets his hands on it, and it's perfect. Maybe the stupidity is hereditary..

Hey, I'm offended by that.. I know LOADS about my car. It's... red.... aaaand it has 4 brand spanking new wheelie things as of today. Oh, and it has a mirror in the sun visor over the driver side.

Thank God to hear that. You'd end up with lipstick on the point of your nose if there wasn't one :D
