Medion Navigator - change nav software and maps?

    Hi,

I have a Medion MD96800 bought from Aldi a few years back. It runs with 2005 Navteq maps, so Ireland's road network is very incomplete on it.

I just called Medion to find out if they have the newer maps. Answer is they don't. Even the 2006-2 maps would be good, but the 2007-2 maps would be super!

So, seeing as my chances of upgrading to new maps are slim enough, can I turn my unit in to a different nav system?

It's basically a Windows CE PDA, so in reality I can load what I like on it. Anyone done this? Like load Route 66 on it or other software that would allow me access to newer maps.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Alan.

    eirlink,

do you ever get issues with your Route 66 software crashing the whole unit? Sometimes a soft reset works, but twice now I've had to do a hard reset. One was because soft reset didn't work and the other was because the battery ran down and everything reset itself.

To get back to normal I had to reload the SD card with the Medion install software and get it back to the original state. Then I follow the steps for accessing WinCE and then I load Route 66 again.

Any way to avoid this? The battery going dead is the biggest problem I'll have if I don't use the unit too often. If I do a hard reset, can I not just load straight in to WinCE?

    Any tips?

    Alan.
