Nice surprise, spotted some familiar looking 'Hives' (CD container) in several retail outlets in Dublin.

Verbatim seem to be packaging decent CDR's from a respected manufacturer.

    Taiyo Yuden.

    Here's a sealed hive.

    Here's the hive opened up.

Taiyo Yuden hives are unique, the ridge and the down and over, lock to twist cover. The media will always be made in Japan.

    Label detail and bar-code.

    Result from DVDInfoPro.

Media spotted in: Easons, O'Connell Street. Maplins, Jervis Street. Dixons, Jervis Shopping Center.

Nice dark eggy blue dye, makes a change from the awful Moser Baer rubbish Verbatim has been touting for so long.

There were other runs of media being sold by Verbatim, mixed in with the Taiyo Yuden, different containers and different country of manufacture for the non-TY media.

Nice media, nice price, between 11.99 (euro) and 13.99 (euro). Check that the hive matches and the country of manufacture is Japan for some rather good and cheap media.

These have crept in over the last month or so. No doubt being sold elsewhere in Dublin and the country, not just the above.

    Just a heads up.

Why are you talking about TDK when your pictures show Verbatim CD-Rs? TDK has nothing to do with Verbatim or Mitsubishi Chemical.

Thanks for the info anyway - may be our last chance to get some good CD-Rs and not some Chinese or Indian crap!

zilog_jones, oops.. just a subliminal thing, I probably associated cr-p media with both! :D

    I will edit the post.

Everywhere I've seen has about 3 or 4 runs of media from Verbatim mixed in, Malaysia, India (Moser Baer?), 'Europe', Thailand, Japan.

The hives have to match and be manufactured in Japan for it to be Taiyo Yuden.

For anyone nonplussed by this thread, brand is nothing when it comes to CDR's, its who manufactures them that counts. The better the quality, the longer your Data/Audio will last.
