    Hi,

If I buy a UK reg car with a plate that's worth, say, £250, is there any way that I can sell the plate and still reregister the car here?

yes. Assuming the car has T&T, you need to put the number on to a retention certificate. A new number will then be allocated to the car and you can then re-register it.

However, there are costs involved and a number that someone TELLS you is worth £250 is worthless unless you have a buyer for it. The people that sell them in the press in the UK dont actually buy them off you until they have a buyer for it.

Probably not worth bothering with unless the number is worth a LOT of money or has some personal meaning to you and you wish to keep it permanently.

    Thanks,

The owner claims to have a written valuation or offer (not sure which) for that value from a company that deals in number plates - I can understand how these things might only have a value when Joe Public sees some hidden meaning in them - I can't for the life of me see anything in most of them and even when they're explained I'm sometimes at a loss....

It also cost you £105 to put a number on retention and when you find a buyer you transfer the retention cert into their name.
