Looking to change the tyres on my Specialized Sirrus

I'm looking to get tyres for my Sirrus. The rims are 700c. I had a mishap last September where my front tyre kept going flat so I ended up replacing both the tyres that came with the bike with reasonably priced semi puncture proof ones. I think the front one is a SCHWALBE tyre and the back one is some dutch "puncture proof" one. They're a bit thick for my liking, I think they are 700x28c. I don't know much about bikes to be perfectly honest. But I'm assuming I could out thinner tyres on these rims from looking at bike websites, like 700x25 or something.

Can anyone recommend me good tyres to buy? I'm cycling in Dublin so they'd need to be fairly robust. Don't want to be getting any punctures.

Also, the seat suspension is annoying me, is it possible to replace the seat post? This isn't as urgent but I'm considering buying a new seat post and saddle too, any recommendations on that would be appreciated too :)

    Thanks!

Cycleways in town have them, thats where I got mine. Schwalbe Marathons are also good.

Also, how thin should I go... I feel that the 28s are just too wide. Any suggestions on a seat post?

You could always go down to 700x25. I'm not sure if the Armadillos come in this size - these do though:

Changing your seatpost is no big deal - just get one the same diameter (it should be stamped on the lower part of the post - or measure it) and of an appropriate length.

Well, narrower tyres give less protection. Also, if your rims are 32, then 25 might be too small... all of these tyres have pretty low rolling resistance!

think that 700c means 28in... although, that's just from looking at this table...

Anyone else have a Sirrus and know whether I can actually put a thinner tyre on my bike.

Here are the specs from the Specialized website...

Mine is the 06 model I think...

I got the Armadillos about three months ago and they've been great so far. Highly recommended.

700 refers to the diameter of the wheel. 28 refers to the width of the tire. I don't think you can put thinner tires on but you might be best off asking in Cycleways.

Since Cycleways are a Specialized dealer, they should be able to help you out with tyre recommendations and replacing the seatpost.

tywy - did you buy the bike from a shop? If so, you should try to go back to the shop for advice.

According to that site your bike has Alex DA-16 rims. If you've read your sheldon brown (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tyre-sizing.html) you'll know that: "A general guideline is that the tyre width should be between 1.45/2.0 x the inner rim width." So heading over to http://www.alexrims.com/ you can find that your rim has an inner diameter of 16.3 mm.

That means you should be running a tire with a width of between 23.6mm and 32.6mm. As Morgan says, a 700x25 will work fine, you'd probably get away with a 700x23 if you couldn't find the tire you want in 25.

I have a Specialised Sirrus. They have a suspension seatpost. I cycled to Rathdrum once and stopped for a few minutes to eat a sandwich. When I was ready to start off I picked the bike up by the handlebars and seat and the seat fell off. The threads on the suspension seatpost had turned to mush. Cycleways fitted a standard seatpost. None of that up and down with the suspension seatpost, which was supposed to be comfortable, but wasn't.

    What made you switch back?

I was thinking about the 28's myself hoping that they'd be noticably more comfortable over rough Irish roads than the 23's.
