Thanks ... is he reliable ?

... any experience of him ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,196 ✭✭✭PaulieC

no experience personally, but I have heard he is reliable. Also, he'll give you discounted prices if you buy from him outside of ebay. However, you've then lost what protection ebay might afford if something goes titsup...

edit: but why buy from him anyway? He's more expensive than Kea, URGalaxy etc... and at least they send you gear via Fedex/UPS so you can track their progress and have them delivered inside 3 days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

    I'm still waiting for a 50mm f/1.8 from him.
Over a week since I ordered it and have had zero communication from him.
Going to give him the benefit of the doubt, since there was a Bank Holiday in Britain, last weekend.
Definitely quicker from Hong Kong & they have the decency to e-mail you.

was thinking the same.. worst case scenario your kea delivery is going to arrive in 4 days instead of 3 and it's still going to cost you less...

Only real reason to change to him is to buy the expensive stuff. At least that way you could catch a cheap flight to Scotland, pickup your lens, have a deep fried mars bar and be back home in time for supper.

err, that is presuming he'd meet you somewhere... I wouldnt much like to be arriving into Glasgow and facing the perilous journey across rural Scotland in order to pickup a lens.. They wear kilts n' stuff like that.

Nuthin at all wrong with scottish folk.. It's the giant man eatin haggises that live in the highlands you have to be careful of.

not that I know of... but I wouldn't be entirely surprised

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

No, kilts are for boys. And we don't actually eat deep fried mars bars. And haggis isn't made from a sheep's stomach anymore. And we don't say "och aye the noo" or "see you, Jimmy!".

Here was me thinking I had some kind of a celtic link with you lot, too...

Helios was telling me he bought a lens from the kerso bloke and it arrived in 2 days. Not sure what's happened to the others :( I had been thinking about getting my 100mm from him but went to albert in the end, and now I'm waiting for it, at the mercy of various postal services. How long does the stuff that he doesn't send by UPS usually take?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

I got stuff from Albert, by post (not UPS/FedEX) and it took 7 days or so.

this is why i buy my kit from my friend.

Albert just rang me, said he's all out of stock of canon 100mm... said they have gone out of production forever.

ah no, I got a lens from him took about 5 days I think. If it's a problem with post it's our dear beloved an post that is most likely to blame...

Cripes... actually fell over laughing.. That was dangerous.

You might not say either of those, but you do have some potentially harmful (yet delightfully musical) things to say about forcefully ejecting your grandmother from a form of public transport.

    that's the stuff...

still laughing myself silly at "och aye the noo".. I demand a soundbite! *goes off googling*

Seriusly thinking of buying form this guy ... have a look at these prices -

    Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro USM Lens £295
    Canon 50mm F1.4 USM Lens £190
58mm UV Filter (decent quality) Hoya £8
58mm Circular Polariser Filter Hoya £15
    Canon ET-67 hood for 100mm Macro £23
    Canon ES-71 II Hood for 50mm F1.4 £18
Angle Finder for Canon (20d and 1D Mk III) £115
    1D MK III £2650

Anyone else got any real world experience and/or links to other forums with real world experience of him ? ... (be careful with references to other forums you could get banned ... eh Rymus ;):p)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

Just read in AVF that this guy is US based ... Not sure if it is true but if it is ... I don't get this Scottish connection ?? (Apart from the name Kerr ;))

If it is coming from the US then surely you face the same risks as with Albert ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

    My lens turned up today.
Got it for €90 odd, including postage.
Suppose I can't have any complaints really, other than the slow delivery.

I got a €50 item off him and found him to be fine. It took about 10 days for the parcel to arrive though.

I bought a canon 16-35mm off him for 800Gbp last october delivery took about a week via Royal Mail Airmail signed for, alot of people have bought from him at the POTN website, I would definetely use again as his prices are very competitive, My lens was shipped from Glasgow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

Yeah, shipped out of Scotland, via Royal Mail.
Is eBay the greatest antidote for Rip Off Ireland!?

It was a case of "Donald, where's me lens?", for the last week, but all is forgiven now.

Didn't Sineadw say she bought the 50mm f/1.8 from him too?

Just posted in this thread in AVF -

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4907390#post4907390

The guy is based in USA and ships via Scotland ... so I assume this means he takes the burden and risk of paying Duty away ...

Very tempted to get the 1D MKIII from him ... but will need a mack warranty since Canon have such rubbish warranties in the USA ...

I got a Mack warranty with my 300mm f/2.8 from URGalaxy. Would risk using them again, if I was after something so expensive.
