    Hi folks,

Off to Thailand on honeymoon in August, and was wondering about what shots are required. Our travel agent said we should be OK without getting any, but a few people I've met who've gone there have gotten some beforehand.

    This site gives these shots:

    Recommended For All Travellers
    • Tetanus
    • Typhoid
    • Hepatitis A
    Trekking
    • Rabies
    • Hepatitis B
    Rural
    • Tuberculosis
    • Meningococcal Meningitis
    • Japanese B Encephalitis

We're going to Bangkok, Chang Mai and Koh Samui - do you reckon we should go for none/all/some of the shots or what?

    thanks,

    Eoin

    Eoin,

If you're planning Chan Mai and will be doing some exploring in the jungle, I would recommend all shots.

If it was just Bangkok and a beach, I wouldn't bother at all (I didn't, although I was only there a few days), but would give definite consideration to jabs for your trip.

Thanks Mike - the Chang Mai part was the one that I thought of as well, may as well go for them. It's €300 for the lot, but that's probably better than the alternative!

I would recommend getting Tetanus, Typhoid and Hepatitis A. If you going into the jungle its a diffferent matter. But don't risk the basic ones for the sake of a few quid !!! Try your GP - mine did these 3 for 85 euro last year, which was much cheaper than TMB et al.
Also, you don't really need malaria tables, but I always get them just in case... besides if you get them all in one month's script the drugs refund scheme covers the 85 excess, which is handy if you order the shots via same pharmacy - makes it even cheaper.

I'm heading to Thailand for 2 months and on dicussing with my GP I ended up getting these injections last Friday.
    • Tetanus
    • Typhoid
    • Hepatitis A
    Trekking
    • Rabies
    • Hepatitis B
    Rural
    • Tuberculosis
    • Meningococcal Meningitis
    • Japanese B Encephalitis

I was told going without the Rabies injection is fine as long as you are within reasonable distance of a Hopsital/Medical care, while the latter 3 are for when venturing further of the beaten track. Pretty sure I'm getting Polio in a few weeks too.
