    Hi folks ..
    question :

Is regular DVD HD ? and BluRay/HD DVD Full HD ??

just asking as since shows such as LOST are broadcast in the US in HD .. but no plans on releasing these on HD dvd (yet) .. would the DVD of this then not be as high quality ? even on a HD Ready TV ? with a HDMI connection ??

No DVD is standard definition video 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL. Though most DVD's are anamorphic so they stretch out on a wide-screen TV to 1024x576 for instance.

HD-DVD/Blu-ray are almost always 1920x1080 (1080p) though they also have the option of a lower resolution of 1280x720 (720p). Typically the difference between 720p and 1080p is referred to by some as Full HD for 1080p for marketing purposes.

TV shows broadcast in HD can be in either 720i/p or 1080i/p (interlaced or progressive) it is at the broadcasters discretion so Lost can be broadcast in either format depending on the region.

The only disc format HD episodes of Lost will appear on will be either HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

That's the nice thing of HD broadcasts but Sky is the only game in town for HDTV here as there are no free broadcasters (a few foreign language ones in Europe).

TV series are definitely coming to HD-DVD/Blu-ray e.g The Sopranos though given the still relatively niche status of both formats and until one comes out on top the selection will be limited.

yeah and from the reviews the HD-dvd and BluRay disc are always better quality then the broadcast version's. So Heroes is coming in August and hopefully we'll get Lost as well.

True but it is still an option as the BBC where trialling HD and 1080p was one of the formats they used in their tests.
