He comes out with the odd funny on the panel, but not often enough for my likings.

Yet another completely talent less and amazingly unfunny Irish comedian.

    I think he is entertaining.

even the radio ad he's currently doing for the cats laugh is crap.

if you watch the panel, they have him and that other unfunny person off the darcy show on one side and then two occasionally amusing panelists on the other.

Who do you think is a funny comedian?

I think he is better than Peter Cook:eek:

well the other two lads on the panel are sufficiently amusing to warrant a spot on the tv, imho (can't think of their names).

i can't admit to seeing that many amusing comedians recently. Granted, I don't get to stand up clubs much but just get to see whatever dross they stick on the tv. Used to think Tommy Tiernan was funny about 5 years ago. Denis Leary the same (crap now).
Bill Hicks (but dated now). The irish guy off Black Books is good. Dara O'Brien (spelling?) can be funny. Richard Prior/early Eddie Murphy/early Billy Connolly (all old I know..)

The Peter Cook/Goons thing is a bit arty for my taste but I'll bow to those who know better when they say they were some of the best.

jason byrne and ed byrne - two more crap 'comedians' who seem to get alot of air time.

ed byrne is a funking genius, one of the funniest stand up shows i've ever seen and yes i have all the old stuff richard pry/eddie murphy.

Dylan moran is also very good, carl spain has moments but from what I've seen lacks confidence in front of the camera.

very good point hash - he definately lacks the confidence in front of the camera - i personally think hes a terrible comedian. He tries to use the self-deprecating style of humour - i love fast food, terrible with women etc etc and it just dosnt work. i genuinly would watch one of his stand up routines even if he was doing it for free in my front garden..... The likes of neil delamare and andrew maxwell and are 100% confident in front of the camera - they are not afraid to say or do anything even if theres a chance itll make them look stupid.....

Karl Spain as a stand-up is pretty good but he's got a laconic style that just doesn't seem suited to the panel when all the other comedians are like hyperactive children with attention deficit disorders.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,412 ✭✭✭HashSlinging

not sure about him being a crap comedian, I've seen some shows on TV that were good, maybe needs a bit more air time to get the confidence, I think theres a fair amount of pressure on the comedians to perform on "the panel" even though its not supposed to be an outright comedy show, and Id say theres a fair amount of back stabbin goooin on to try and get the next gig etc.

I have seen Karl Spain live, and I am going to see him live again tomorrow evening. Tbh I also thought he sucked on the panel, but F*ck me he is hilarious doing stand up, and the same goes for Jason Byrne , Jason is one of the most funniest guys I have ever seen live. IF they suck on tv, there is nothing to say they arent good live, tv can be extremely restricting.

Yeah, but he comes across like such an arse on the telly, that I'm never gonna go see him...same for that weasel Ed Byrne, and the rest of The Panel (bar O'Brian)

Big and pointless. Much like the country.
