    Hi,
In case people haven't heard yet there's an off road track being created in Ballyhoura. See http://www.ballyhouracountry.com/bhsection.asp?bhl1=Tourism&bhl2=Features&bhl3=Features&sloc=&rrn=847 for full details.

The mountain bike trails will have 3 world class trails, 91 km in total, of way marked routes using a combination of forest roads and new built single track trails.

It sounds great to me, even if it's LONG overdue in Ireland....
There's also a trail in Oughterard being created at the moment, it should be open in October or so.

    Update from coillte-
    Update on Coillte Recreation Works

As announced last spring, Coillte is now completing two recreation projects between Oughterard and Maam Cross.
The first, a 16km long mountain bike trail network, is near the Clifden road about 8 kilometres from Oughterard.
The second project is 4.5kms of timber boardwalk through Coillte lands at Leckavrea near Maam Cross. This trail will provide a much needed alternative to the current route of the Western Way. Two contracting companies have employed up to 14 staff on the projects over the past 5 months and both are due for completion by the end of November. It is very important that the trails are not used before they are completed as it may be dangerous and damaging to the work already done. Coillte is working closely with the Oughterard Tourist office, the Community Council and the Connemara LEADER programme to ensure the facilities are well promoted, maintained and used, to the maximum benefit of the community.
