The untouchables

Are the Cork hurling team becoming untouchable?

We had the incident coming out of the tunnel last Sunday. Then one of the Cork players wanted the ref to come to him instead of the other way around. And we had the cummins sliothars a few years ago.

It's about time the GAC or whoever is dealing with it gives them the slap on the wrist they truly deserve.

That incident in Parnell Park is a disgrace all involved should hang there heads in shame of course it will be excused as "hard hitting championship stuff". I think it is sad that teams have to resort to pulling and dragging before they are even on the pitch. You dont see premiership team insert fav team here doing this week in week out and they walk out together on camera even for the Finals of say champions league. It says something about us as GAA fans that we need to separate each other and then race on to pitch to apparently gee ourselves up for the match. The young children were put at risk by a couple of idiots and they should be reprimanded severly.

I agree that what happened between Cork & Clare was a disgrace but its nothing to do with the difference between GAA and Soccer.

I love the way the teams run on to the field separately and the opposing fans try to ensure that their team is greeted with a louder roar and bigger flags than the other "shower".:) :)
It adds to the atomosphere and its just the way its always been done and I see no reason to change it.

Someone made a mistake and sent the two teams out together and that caused the problem, although the players should have dealt with it better.

It was a storm in a tea cup.I found the whole thing laughable to be quite honest.Seeing those players run side by side was a joke. They all looked like a bunch of children fighting over the last mars bar.

Nothing serious happened in reality, nobody got hurt thank God but the GAA will make an enquiry just to save face as I am sure if this incident happened in the middle of the game it would have been viewed as completely normal.

Agree 100% with you, blackbelt. It only looked bad to people who listened to the sh1t that Pat Spillane et al came up with in order to be controversiol or get ratings.

The analysists on the sunday game seem to think they are discussing the premiership nowadays with all their "bringing the game into disrepute" etc.

I see the GAA has handed out suspensions today to some "un-named" players. Why dont they fine them their week's pay as well

Yes Kojak, the media seem to have blown it out of proportion. When you take what happened on Sunday and compare it to the ugly scenes at half time in the Dublin-Tyrone replay,it looks like some muppets kicking a can around.

The more I watched it on the 6 o clock,9 o clock news and the Sunday Game, the more I laughed my @$$ off.

And what a joke that the players that were suspended were anonoymous, there is no anonymity in sport. The players from Cork will be notable players who lined last weekend that won't play in the next game.

Yeah, but it will suit Waterford even more if a few of Cork's starting 15 were to be missing for the next day. I'm not saying that I think that Waterford would need "help" like this (in fact I think they will win anyways) but it is pointless leaving the players "annonomyous" - usre it will be as clear as day who was banned when Cork play Waterford in a few weeks time.

The GAA and the CCCC should name and shame these guys to save face. Its not very credible to suspend these guys without naming them because we will find out eventually.

Why is this seen as a mistake are teams that childish they must be separated till the game is on. They seem perfectly able to parade for the anthem so I dont see why they cant run out together too.

I just watched the thing on the one o clock news again on RTE and it did not look like this was something anyone could excuse Pat Spillane was dead right to give out players acting like a crowd of tens year olds in front of newspaper photographers and TV cameras. This can not be excused it is a slippery slope and one we should always avoid otherwise GAA games will suffer. Sometime it depresses me when this sort of stuff happens we all agree that violence has no place but when it happens we usually excuse it. GAA is suffering as a result trust me everytime another high profile incident happens like the stuff last year with portumna people are turned off watching and buying tickets. Some may laugh at this and claim the usual mans game stuff etc etc but the downside of this is cheating I want games to be fair and they cant be fair if players feel they can get away with assault. Maybe I am too much of an idealist but I live in hope .

Unconfirmed sources say the following are banned

Cusack Kenny O Sullivan O Hailpin from Cork
C Lynch F Lynch Lohan Markham from Clare

Lets see Frank Murphy weave his magic.
Sean og actually dropped his hurley and tore in!!!!

Cusack, O'Sullivan, O'Hailpin and Gardner (with Curren warned as well) all suspended.

    O'Grady, 2 Lynch's and Markham for Clare

This will have a bigger impact for Cork that Clare (if they stick), Cork are due to play Waterford within the Monday, Clare play Antrim on the 30th of June, but I think now suspensions carry a minimum of a 1 match ban

ah sure it should see Plunkett and Daithi back (if they sober up):D

You can be guaranteed that all of the above named Cork players will play against Waterford (barring injury). Magic Murphy will produce his special wand and all will be forgotten.

Clare players suspended were Andy Quinn, Alan Markham, Barry Nugent and Colin Lynch, they are all getting a month each, so they'll miss the Antrim going.

Markham is a big loss, he was 1 of our best players the last day.

Colin Lynch can't give 70 minutes any more.

Andrew Quinn, didn't have the best day the last day, rest will do him good.

Nugent played well the last day, only bursting on the team now, pity for him, but the rest could do him good

Yeah, I also think that the suspensions for Cork (if they last but dont count on it) as it will weaken them significantly for the match against Waterford, and will make it virtually impossible to wion against the Deise.

It wont matter that much to Clare, as their second string woulod probably win against Laois and Antrim - which is all they have to do in order to emerge from the group.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of them "get off" their bans, though. As I said earlier I think there was more made of the incident that what actually happened.

I've a feeling that the hassle that the first round of the munster championship caused could lead to bigger troubles.

Who's the chairman of the GPA this year? (loaded question btw(
