saying the wrong name

ugh, minor problem but just wanted others opinion.

i love my bf, he's brill and sexy as hell and perfect to me ect but....

the problem is the odd time i say my 1st bfs name instead of his. now i was late to the dating game at the ripe age of 18 but my 1st bf wasnt exactly great, apart from the traditional 1st bf treating me badly, i was never really that attracted to him (it was a friendship thing at the start) he was more like a best friend who i took a chance on for nearly 5mths (yeah i know but i was stupid).

its been a year since i broke up with my first bf and had a few romances in between and i've been with my first love for 7/8 months. so why does my first bfs name keep popping out!?

thankfully its not during sex or sexual acts but still. it might happen twice a month or when im tired.

thankfully i can cover it up the odd time with my bf but its annoying the hell outa me.

i sometimes think its because i saw my 1st bf almost every day and still see alot of him as we're still best friends whereas i spend weekends with my current bf as its longish distance. however we talk on the phone, txt, msn every day.

the thing is i often mix up guys names with others and girls with other girls but when i see my bf look a bit hurt after it drives me mad!
how do i stop?

aw!!! it has happened to me too. 1st bf's name comes out... but has only happened a few times. you can't help it if you were with your 1st for a long time and expecially if you still see him, your brain can easily make mistakes. i guess it's hard to get your brain to get out of the habit of saying his name, expecially since you've said is so often before. i highly doubt there is any underlying reason. just hope time will solve it!

Trust me its nothing to worry about. A while ago i went out with one of my best friends (mistake as well!) but now we're back the way we wer after a bit of a rough patch. Every time we talk she always says her bf's name instead of mine nd i even call my current gf by her name sumtimes. Its nothing to worry about it just happens sometimes

My gf once called me her (male) friend's name and I admit it's not the nicest thing to hear, but I knew that there was absolutely nothing to it. And your bf should know that too whenever it happens. Old habits die hard right?

Its a bit of an 'oops' alright. But I mix up names all the times, call my kids each others name, call my husband the dogs name....(joking;) ) It happens to everyone, especially if you're tired like you said.

Perhaps next time you get a chance, tell your bf that you apologise in advance for the next time this happens, and explain that you do it with all names, not just his and your ex! If you make a joke out of it, next time you do it he'll hopefully just dig you in the ribs and laugh it off.

It happens everyone OP. Maybe next time it happens tell your bf how bad you feel for doing it and explain that there are no feelings left between you and the other guy its just old habits dying hard.
