Residents for Realignment

Victor posted this link in an other thread.
We think that, as residents of Drumcondra and surrounds, we should have been consulted by the RPA before they decided to realign the metro under our homes just because it was CHEAPER!

Surely they had the same opportunity to participate in the route selection process as everyone else? Did we not have open days, leaflets and a website, phone number and postal address to contribute objections through?
Remember if we get the metro to run through green spaces we actually protect these green areas in the long run. Developers will not be able to put high rise buildings over the tunnels. We believe high rise developments are currently planned for the green spaces in St Patrick's College and at the entrance to Courtlands

This smells of something less than roses to me. Why would developers not be able to build on top of tunnels?

Never mind though, our fearless Taoiseach rushes to the rescue:
An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern welcomes representatives from Residents for Re-Alignment to his offices in St Luke's, Drumcondra. In a very strong statement Mr Ahern said that the current alignment made "absolutely no sense" and his view was "that the Metro North should be realigned to green areas and cause residents the least amount of disturbance".

    And my personal favourite:
When questioned, Project Director Rory O’Connor, said that for the 30 month period of excavation work on the Griffith Avenue station alone, local residents will see and hear on average one large dumper truck pass by every three minutes for thirteen hours every day!

Shock horror, earth moving may happen while digging a tunnel :rolls eyes:

What green areas can the metro be realligned to between the M50 and the city centre?

Someone should just tell them the value of their house will go up 25% when it's finished. That should shut them up.
