Safari Advise!

Hey - I was thinking of going on a Safari with the wife for our 1st anniversary at the end of July. If anyone knows anything about it, I have a few questions!

    1) Where would be ideal? I was thinking Kenya, or Tanzania's Serengeti. I want somewhere with lots of big cats!
    2) How long would you go for? Is a week enough, with 2 or 3 days on actual safari?
    3) Is Kenya/South Africa cheap, or would I get pwned because I'm a tourist?
    4) Do you need vaccinations?
    5) Is East Africa dangerous? Excuse my ignorance, but I heard Johannesburg in South Africa is terrible! Does the same apply to the whole continent?
    6) Any other tips/advise from someone who has already been?

    Much appreciated - cheers!

just back from kenya, didnt go specifically for safari but when we were out there we decided to give it a go, and so glad we did now... booked a 2 day safari to tsavo, trip from mombasa took about 4 hours, saw most of animals, the voi lodge we stayed in has got to have the best views of any hotel in the world overlooking the plains and watering holes where we saw most of the main animals. Its not dangerous if you stick to the tourist areas, and you do need vacs a few weeks before you go, including yellow fever and malaria tabs, anything else you want to know ask.
