You won't need a car in Dublin - it will just end up being a PITA.

Without knowing what your interests are, it's hard to recommend things, but I suppose at a minimum the National Museum, the Hugh Lane Art Gallery, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, IMMA, The Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Howth.
The Guinness and Jameson tours are there too if that's your bag.

Possible day trips where the car might become useful - Newgrange, Glendalough etc.

The hop on hop off bus brings you to the best tourist destinations. (good pubs too...)
