Anyone ever bought from there store in New York? Not online now, in the actual store..

Im going to NY in August and would like a new lense for it! I was looking at the canon 15mm Fisheye on kompett... €700 on B&H its like €579 or something and that in euro would be alot cheaper so im thinking I could go buy it there instead of here save some money :)

Go to the store whether you buy or not it's an experience :) They have selective opening hours given their Jewish beliefs but it's camera heaven! Bought a digital rebel there.

To say it's an experience is an understatement;) It's a little hasidic gadget paradise. Highly recommend.

Was there over Christmas period. Go early and expect to be there for a while as you will no doubt end up buying a couple of things more than anticipated... :D:D

Just remember when you buy in the store you will have to pay the new york state sales tax on top.

iirc NY is 8.375% sales tax.. so get your calculator out.

The shop is indeed an experience but not for the faint hearted. When I went in there back in Feb I was completely overwhelmed. Next time I'll be fully prepared :D

In my experience, if they have something marked as in stock on the website, its in stock in the shop too.

Definitely second others comments - was there last week and ended up spending a crazy amount.

Was disappointed however that they were out of the speedlite I was primarily after, but made up for it on everything else.

On the subject of the Tax - is it possible to claim this back? We didn't have time to look into this in the airport on the way home and Im wondering if it can be done retrospectively (if at all)

Definitely a great experience even if not buying ... and (a bonus) they really know their stuff too ... no muppet style Power City salemen there ...

Be careful of their closing times however... as Hacidic Jews they are not open during their sabbath (Saturday) and during Jewish holidays ... There seems to be lots of these ... coz a few times I went to along to find the shutters were down ... :(

I know this sounds strange but you can get the state tax off the price if you buy online and ship to an out of state US address ... so if you are staying with friends in NJ or CT it is an option to consider ... NY state tax is 8.375%

I've been there a few times, always worth the trek westward on manhattan, what a store... puts any other camera store you've been in to shame. For me, it epitomises the NY experience; select, unique and comprehensive.
