Hey, I'm after re-installing xp on an old laptop (orginally had xp) but foolish never copied the drivers. Xp is installed but I'm missing about 5 drivers, I've tried the microsoft support pages (pants) and the dell resource cd's and a few other sites but I'm having no joy, I'm wondering if anybody out there has any software /programs for scanning the machine and getting drivers.

I use Unknown Devices in cases like this. It should allow you to identify the manufacturer and model of the devices and then you can just go their website and get drivers.

Key thing with dell's is to install the intel chipset drivers. Without these the OD will never recognise things like graphics card, network card, audio etc.

Yep Intel site or Dell support site.

    (Assuming it's a dell laptop)

Does the Dell laptop not have a service TAG that you can use on their site to get the drivers for the hardware ?

You can always use the model number instead to narrow it down.
