Has anyone seen this band ?
I was pretty impressed with their performance at the BBC R1 gig in
Preston (highlights shown last night on the Beeb).
Gangly young lads who are buzzing with raw energy.. great live and
the recorded material is seriously catchy. They are from
    Coventry
    www.myspace.com/theenemycoventry

There is a bit of an early Paul Welleresque whiff about them

I'm not massively into indie stuff but I'd put my money on them
becoming a big thing ... I think they've already done a few gigs
    in Ireland ..?

Did a bit of digging to find a mention of The Enemy. Just got there album there and it's awesome. Some absolutely quality tunes. Some very Jam-esque and others have a hint of the Arctic Monkeys.

Favourite songs are the title track 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns'. 'You're Not Alone' and 'Happy Birthday Jane'. Well work checking out.

Any chance of a move to Alternative & Indie? Might be more of an interest there.

Great album. On of my favourites from last year. Nothing particularly ground breaking but that doesn't really matter if you can back it up with great songs.

They definitely do sound like The Jam and Arctics on a lot of the songs though.

Always meant to check these lads out, will buy their album soon so after the reviews here..

There so lame- the singer never stops singing throughout the whole song, he just keeps going on and on- sometimes its difficult to tell where the chorus is.

The pretend they're 'new punks'- but listen to their songs and you'll hear light pop/rock- or sh1t; whichever terminology you think describes them best, I prefer the latter.

Don't like them one bit. That song they had about dying in a town or whatever, just drive me mental. The singers voice grates on my ears.

I didn't like The Jam first time round.....

    Any reason?

Singer's voice, singer's lyrics, singer's attitude to other bands and his incredibly over-inflated ego. Yeah pretty much the singer really.

Yeah the lead singer is bit of a twat, he called The Artic Monkeys second album 'dull', weather he thought that or not he shouldn't have said it as there are a lot of Artic Monkey fans out there and you can bet that a lot of them now hate him and The Enemys music for that comment.

But I actually like their album, its not anything that hasn't been done before but its still a reasonable debut.

why not listen to the Jam and the Arctic Monkeys, instead of listening to a band that sounds like them..;)

I do and I like both their sounds so therefore I like a band that combines both.

Fair enough people not liking the singer cause of his personality but that's not really a valid reason to dislike the music

Hmmm, i personally dislike them. Very much overrated, they certainly did not live up to the "hype" surrounding their latest album, and I hate their singers voice. Haven't heard much about his attitude though.

Now I have seen it all, The Enemy :D:D probably the biggest union of tossers I have ever seen, they just about beat the Arctic Monkey idiots when it comes to being tossers.Yet you all reckon these two bands are "alternative".Well if being alternative is being the same old sh*te as everything else then you may aswell throw Atomic Kitten in to the alternative ring too then lads.Alternative music does not mean any band that every member has longish hair and wears a leather/parka/denim jacket or suits with skinny ties and are fronted by a skinny angst ridden lead singer and play electric guitars and drums, if does well then whats the alternative to alternative

I dont like the Enemy but I see no reason to come in and piss all over other peoples tastes with some attempted intelectual hyperbole.

Your opinion is based completly on the fact that these bands are succesfull. In your head they therfore cease to be alternative. Would you say the same for Radiohead or REM or Nirvana Or The Smashing Pumkins or The Strokes.

Have you ever actually listened to The Arctic Monkeys or The Enemy or have you formed your opinions based on the fact that if they are succesfull they are no longer cool. I f**king hate that attitude. I listen to a huge amount of music and I can safely say that The Arctic Monkeys are one of the best bands around at the moment in any genre despite what they wear or what bands they have been lumped in with. Would you prefer that we went back to the days when the radio played nothing but sh!te boy bands and R&B. I would much rather hearing actual musicians as is the case now.

What other forum would you suggest that people discuss bands like these anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Poltergoose is clearly some sort of music guru. Either that or just a music snob as evidenced by his posts in other threads. I don't want to start crying troll but it must be borderline

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Poltergoose

Yeah Mikehoncho thats their opinion on them and that was mine, get over it.I formed my opinion on Arctic Monkeys quite early on, actually after the first time I heard them and I knew how they would appeal to the "mad for it" and the "i think i'm a mod" scene that think thats "alternative".Oasis were not classed alternative it was "brit-pop" so why would all their clones be alternative? And for the record all the bands you listed I could'nt care how popular they are as I never liked any of them from the start, again thats just my OPINION.

Xavi I like your taste in football team though not a great fan of your music taste, but im sure you have bands you dont like so get over the fact I dont like yours, its not the end of the world.CTID

You have still yet to offer us any "Alternative" what bands do you like Poltergoose?

Oasis were classified Britpop which actually happens to be a sub genre of Alternative along with grunge and indie rock etc.

Its a fairly umbrella term for alot of genres actually it is not meant to be taken literally as in "Alternative to the mainstream" its essentially pretty much anything that came after punk that had guitars in and was'nt metal.

Can't say i like this band. They seem to be goin over the top the the whole working class hero thing. They called the Arctic Monkeys boring, yet i can barely differentiate betweenany of their songs. Yes its **** working 9-5 in a boring town, but sing about something else please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭whiterob81

this band actually represents a lot of what i hate about modern british music. They're a bunch of arrogant, under-educated retro rockers that have been inspired some of the worst british acts of the last few years i.e. oasis, kasabian.
But i have to say that the most perplexing thing about them is that despite all this they've brought one of the best albums of last year. i bought it 2 weeks ago and i can't stop listening to it. It's fantastic

Firstly the Enemy wouldn't even near my top 25 bands, I just think it's ok to listen to.

Secondly, the reason I responded to you is because I saw three threads in a row where you attcked other poster's opinion by talking down to them, something I don't agree with.

Thirdly, yes CTID so get yourself over to the soccer forum, there's bragging to be done!

Well, I've met the Enemy and they're all sound lads, I can report. I've also met musicians who have a great media presence and have good reputations among fans, but are absolute tossers in real life, esp. when it comes to anything Irish.

The Enemy are in Ireland on a small tour at the mo, with John MacCormack, Kilkennyman and ex drummer of Belsonic Sound at the sounddesk. A shortish set, up to one hour of pace. Support Twisted Wheel are on the upward curve.

I picked up a copy of 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' for £4 at my local HMV. The best bargain ever, it's a future classic.
And the singer was right about Arctic Monkeys, Favourite Worst Nightmare was utterly forgettable. (Sorry to go slightly off topic here, but Tom Clarke was getting grief for this earlier).

The Enemy are useless. Waay over-rated! also his statement to lure in some Artic Monkeys haters doesnt fly with me, Artics Monkeys were also rubbish! That new super group are much better!
