    Hey Guys

Im heading away with the Mrs next week for 5weeks in Delhi,Inida. I'm not sure what to make of having a woman with me as i've heard the horror stories of what can happen over there to western women being "easy" etc. is it dangerous for women during the day? Any tips on what to look out for or can anyone give advice on this topic? im looking forward to going but do not want any problems you know yourself thanks!!!!

Do you have a hotel booked?
    Try Hotel Rangoli
    Address: 9/26 Patel Nagar,
    Delhi
    110008

    Phone: (11) 25854147

It is a pleasant hotel in a bland middle class suburb. I would reccomend staying there for a couple of days and then getting out of Delhi. Go up to Mussoorie or something. It is going to be hot hot hot.

As for your wife the best piece of advice I can give is to wear Indian clothes and if she feel that a man is talki ng to her inappropriately tell him to go away or shout (literally shout) for help.

    Do not stay in Paharrganj.

I am not sure that India is any more dangerous than the west.

Myself and 3 friends (all female 20/21) stayed in India for 9 weeks. The only time we felt worried was when a guy tried to get us into a taxi. But he didn't physically try anything. I found the more North the 'harder' it is, if that's even the right word. Further south you go the most foreigners there are. Agra (place where Taj Mahal is) was the most stressful place we thought.

And yes, it is going to be hot! Lots of nice places you could go up mountains to cool down.

Delhi is fine, just as safe/unsafe as any other big city, but if you keep your wits and common sense about you, you'll be fine. The most important thing is to book your first few nights beforehand and get your hotel to pick you up at the airport. And yes your girl should wear Indian clothes or something equivalently modest, just to avoid unnecessary staring.

Paharganj was mentioned. You certainly wouldn't want to stay there for more than a few days, but anything less than that and it's fine.

There are millions of touts all over the city but a smile and a 'no' will deflect 99% of them. And the beggars, well, that's up to you, but even the poorest Indian will give a few rupees to a leper or an amputee.

And don't trust the rickshaw drivers.
