Qashqai waiting list

I'm trying to get hold of a higher spec Nissan Qashqai (2.0 Diesel 4x4 auto) but the dealers (2 different ones) are telling me it could be January '08 before I see it! Factory can't cope with the demand apparently. Sounds unbelievable. Anybody know if there's a faster way to get one?

Import one or pay over the odds for one.

Pretty much what BostonB said. This has happened many times recently with other cars, but mainly in the higher end of the market

There's been a lot of (anecdotal) evidence that there is indeed a long waiting list for the Qashqai and that no discounts are given on them

Ireland sold out it's 2007 allocation of Qashqai's within 2 weeks of launch.

Parked alongside one in my Focus C-Max the other day, and was surprised to see that they were pretty much identical in size. When I've seen them out on the road they always appeared much bigger somehow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭Anemone

Yeah, funny enough they feel bigger on the inside too (than they really are).

Are they a little taller perhaps?

Regarding availability, a friend in work was looking into one for his wife. They were out of brochures across the Nissan dealer network, never mind an actual Qashqai!
They said it would be October before he's see one, and that was at a push.

Two work colleagues have ordered 'cash cows' also and have been told it will be January at least!

Lovely cars, no wonder they're being sold out.

Only by 2cm! Also 1cm shorter and 4cm narrower than the C-Max. I was surprised too.

    Buy a CRV.

Ah but you see that's where the Qashqai comes in handy. The cheapest CR-V (€42k)is 60% more expensive than the cheapest Qashqai (€26k)

Anyway, pretty much none of the buyers of those type of cars require 4WD for the school run

not surprising, considering it's based on this:

btw- the Qashqai - definately available in diesel and auto ??? mmmmmmmm, interesting.........

Indeed! I must have misread carzone when I looked at it last night. That means that the cheapest CR-V is 75% more expensive than the Ca$hCow

    Hardly competitors so

    my favourite bit:

genuine reason for sale . long waiting list for this particular car .

    says it all!

That's the most honest "genuine reason for sale" I've seen in a long time :D

Fair play to seller. Laws of supply and demand and all that...

Nice to see Nissan are balancing the whole waiting list problem with the arrival of the Tiida, that should scare people away from the showrooms enough for Qashqai production to catch up with demand in time for next years hire car market.

I was in one the other day, I really don't know what all the fuss is about, I wouldn't look twice at one of them tbh, they're nothing special really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

probably a bit cheap for you ;)

EDIT: That guy with the used one is taking bids on it, says he got a bid of 25,500 and is open to more bids! (possibly spoofing)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭junkyard

They are very cheap and nasty inside and the build quality is very iffy. I'd sooner buy a 5 year old quality brand than a new cheap and nasty brand anyday, the year on the plate means nothing to me.

Yea right, thats why there is such a demaind for them eh.
    Bought one and love it:D

High demand ?? Just means a lack of originality and/or taste on behalf on most people.
Wonder how many of these along with Kia's and other 4x4 wannabes will be in use in 5 years time ?? Disposable motoring at it finest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 70 ✭✭Glanza V

i see nothing special with them either. They are just more Chelsea tractors. Another car that will be wasted on the school run.

Almost certainly spoofing. It's worth not a cent more than €22k.

I agree. They are however the first mass market "crossover" vehicle. It's all about the packaging.

You probably drive a Fiat Punto:D

now now ladies nothing wrong with the punto esp the 1.3 multijet diesel which will go to the moon and back on a tank of the black stuff.

have to agree with junkyard i dont know what the fuss is

is this the must have car for people who arent into cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭TomMc

^^^ Looks like it. I know someone who had one of the first ones in my area and they have no interest in cars at all. In fact I never even knew or heard of the CashCow till I saw it. We must live in another car world altogether!

I test drove one a while back (2L 4x4) and while it was a very capable, well spec'd motor at a reasonable price point ... I was bored to tears with it.

I did the test drive to prove a point to my wife who was considering it. The following weekend I took her out on a test drive in the GTi and needless to say it worked and 12 weeks later she wonders why she even considered the Quasqui.

Everyone has a differnent reason for buying an individual car, be it looks, engine, speed, spec, reliability, badge, image, economy etc ... therefore I don't believe anyone can berate another person's choice.

BTW .. I don't think I will ever tire of driving the GTi.

I don't see why there is such a negative feeling about the QashQai?

It is just a car in a newish category that appeals to some people (alot of people it seems), in the same way sports cars/huge SUVs/Estate Cars etc appeal to people.

Some people like them and some don't, like ALL cars. Live with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

its not negative i dont think just total indifference and a bemusement at how a bland looking nissan, faux off roader can be in such high demand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭TomMc

Seems to be quite a few '05/06 GTI's for (private) sale on carzone. Whether it the car or some badgeheads living beyond their means, who knows!

there could be any reason .. but it is very heavy on juice if not driven with a feather (I can get anything from 32mpg to 22mpg in a day), plus the insurance companies like quoting mad money for them.

I know a few people who bought a 05 manual and are now looking for a newer DSG version.

back on topic .... toyota and nissan have been making bland, boring uninspired cars for generations but still sell them by their 10s of millions ... why would the QuasQai be any different.

Buy a Land Rover Defender. They are tougher, better looking and will last a hell of a lot longer than that tin can!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I can think of way more reasons not to buy a Defender than I can not to buy a Qashqai. Way more!

the yummy mummy driving a defender wouldn't be too pleased with the spec level and the creature comforts !!!

In fairness to Joe WIcklow, there are lots of schools on the tops of mountains that have no roads up them. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

I think you are all missing the point.

Alot of people want a car that has a higher driving position than standard. Also, they may not want a big hulking yoke that takes up too much space on the road and uses about 5 gallons of fuel to the mile.

The Qashqai does all this. It is not an off roader, (I would guess that the majority sold are 2wd), and does not claim to be, it is simply a family hatchback that is slightly taller than most. Where is the problem in that?

BTW, I do not own one, and currently have no intention of buying one.

Ford will take a sizeable portion of this sub market soon enough...
