    Guys

Hope this has not been asked before as I dont want to be wasting time.

I have just got a powermac as a home pc for family videos/photos. I am just after downloading all the movies we had taken of christmas day but the mac is not recognising them.

How do i convert mpg to what ever fomat is used by mac, which leads me to my next question, what format is used by mac

    Any help would be appreciated

Mac OS X uses all the same video formats as Windows does. What applicaton are you using to open these files? What error message do you get when you open them?

Are they avi/windows media files? Then for Quicktime to view them you'll need Flip4Mac. Also get VLC, it can play anything.

You can get them both here:

    thanks for the replies.

I am trying to use camcorder footage in I movie HD. I have even tried to open them in realplaye but to no effect.

Is there a vidoe viewer on here except quicktime

iMovie only supports transfer by Firewire, not by USB. If possible, try connecting with a Firewire cable.

When you try and open these files with Quicktime Player, do you get an error message, or just a blank square inside in the player window? If you can, get the movie properties inside Quicktime and see if it reports what type of video it is.

Also, download Video LAN Client (VLC) and attempt to open them using that. Have you seen these exact same video files open on another computer using another player? If so, what was it?
