Folks, any idea where to get the best spec laptop for about 600 or 700 euro?

Most important would be a good processor and 1GB RAM.

    Any suggestions welcome!

Would be best if you included a bit more about what you want to do. If it's just for surfing the net and office applications you don't need anything crazy (though I would suggest 2 gb of memory if you plan to use vista).

If you plan on gaming etc you're into a whole other class of notebook.

Laptopsdirect.ie have some deals, also dell have some reasonable ones sub 700. There's an aldi one coming up in one of the limerick branches this week but that involves queing in the hope you get it.

Also portability. If you'll be carrying it around every day of the week you may want to go for a smaller screened lighter model. If it's going to be basically a desktop replacement you may want to aim for a 17" model.

It will mostly be used for surfing, basic home use. No real gaming or other heavy usage.

Size doesn't matter (!) in this case, as I'll be keeping it at home.

One guy reommended the Dell e1505. Any ideas about this machine?

If you can arrange UK delivery there is one on offer on play.com for a lot less than your budget.

Why not try The Laptop Shop in St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre or Dundrum Centre. They specialise in laptops and have some great deals on at the minute!!!

Yep, I don't have the flyer but they are usually fairly high spec with a 3 year guarantee. Would guess same as last one really.

IN regards to the Dell machine, I use one just like it and does the job. Check out dell.ie and you can see how much it would cost with various changes. Memory really bumps up the price though.
