Chorus Digital - Writing and Logo's not fitting onto screen

I have Chorus Digital and a Sony 32" widescreen TV, 5 years old.

However writing and logo's on screen don't fit properly on the screen, on both sides.

Seemed really bad watching the election coverage, as figures were completely missing at either side of the screen, but it also affects scores on football matches, sky news banners and tv station logo's amongst others.

Problem seems worst on RTE 1 and 2. I've tried changing the view between widescreen, 16:9, zoom etc, but all have the same problem.

Is it to do with the way the signal is broadcast or is there something I can do about it...?

Did you try to change the setting in the TV and/or the Chorus box?

    Regards

    Hi

I don't have Chorus, I'm on NTL but hope they are the same setting, in the control if you press "Menu" and scroll down to "Screen Format" and change it.

    Regards

    Its different from Ntl boxes...
    Press menu
    Select Installation
    Select Set top box installation
    Select Tv and VCR installation
Change Tv Screen size to 16/9 by using the left/right arrows.
Press OK to save the changes
Press exit to return to TV channel

    Thanks for that Irishdudedave

I'll try that tonight when I get home...hopefully it will fix it....

Does this mean the picture will display as 16:9 instead of widescreen, or does this even matter..?

    16:9 is widescreen ;)

    16:9 (1.78:1) is a a widescreen. The shape of a Widescreen TV.
Content can however be from 1:66 "widescreen" (Dr Strangelove) to over 2.7:1 (Ben Hur).

The closest cinema widescreen is 1.85:1, which only looks like it fills 16:9 (1.78:1) as regular TVs overscan.

Regular TV 4:3 is I think 1.33:1 which is close to pre TV cinema "Academy Format"

16:9 and wider is usually re-cropped these days to 14:9 letterboxed on a 4:3 screen (12:9)

Get used to the black bars :)

Watching the weather forecast and now Europe goes over to Turkey instead of stopping at Italy. :D

i have the same kind of problem..but..my telly is a standard 21" (non widescreen)

so is there a fix for me:o

    Philstar

I also have a second chorus box on a 21" tv. The widescreen selection did not work....it won't even show the picture.

However, there was two other selections if I can remember for 4:3...pan and scan format and letter format.

The letter format solved the problem so that the writing was all on screen....the downside to it was the picture was shown with black bars top and bottom of the screen to scale it.

Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that since Chorus changed their channel numbers and upgraded their software in April, that the screen size has to be reset every time the decoder is switched on?

I find that the pictures default to 16:9, and I have to change them to 4:3 panscan (best for my TV) every time. Didn't have to do that before the upgrade.

I have a roof aerial too, and pics from it are fine so I know it's not the telly playing tricks!

I havent had any problems with my Chorus box changing back from 16:9 to 4:3 and havent come across any1 else with the problems your experiencing.

Just want to say thanks for this. I also fixed my TV after ages of viweing the smaller screen!

It annoys me when I still visit friends and relatives that have upgraded to Digital from Chorus and the Engineers dont bother to set the proper aspect ratio which takes a whole 5secs to do.

They used to do quality checks on installs before from time to time and this was one of the things they used to check...a disgrace they dont any longer in my opinion

This is very annoying - every time I visit my parents' house I have to reset it to 16:9 for them - they plug the box out each night and it defaults to 4:3 panscan.

Was going to post a similar topic today. I got NTL digital last week and have the widescreen problem. New Pace box on a 32" widescreen Sony TV. Fine on analogue, but RTE logos and other text are cut off on digital regardless of what screen format I select on the Pace box and TV. Sky digital worked fine in widescreen format.
