greetings irish airsofters , though I am a noobe and have not so far used this forum until now I have this post is see if any1 likes the sound of it ...

. . . there is a paintball arena consisting of tyre stacks and barrels for cover and two fortifications to assault/defend with even what looks like a swiss fighter jet thrown in and it's all set up on the side of a mildly sloping hill in nrth county dublin .

with an initial phone call the owner reckoned he could sort out a price for airsoft games also which could be great. enough players and this could be a possible new skirmish site .

    any feed back's welcome . . .

Sounds like Barrage paintball in Ashbourne. We were up there before Christmas talking to the owner. He seemed interested alright. Haven't really been updated on the situation since.

It's been on the cards for ages. As I said, we were up there talking before Christmas.

Problem being that it sounded like it's more geared toward speedball paintball than airsoft skirmishes.

They're meant to be building a village soon at some point. Will be interesting to see how that works out. Might make a nice CQB style thing.

sounds intersting,a bit off topic, but is there any trips being organised to foxtrot58 during the summer, has the best terrain by far out of all the sites in ireland

the covers sparce so it seems you'd be down low n' on your belly alot , all goes well I'll be talking to the owner on tuesday , arrange prices , times n' that . I reckon heres the place(boards) to organise a game , seems worth getting a foothold in this place as playing in a ruined WWII village would be quite cool . . .

Lol, its a paintball place and building CQB?

Count me In for a game there.

the speedball areana is only 55m X50meters, the rest is all open battle ground. You may get onto ruairi about getting the airsoft up there. It is just an isurance issure. Keep pushing it and let them know there is an interest.

Get a "petition" of names of people who want to play and maybe contact numbers so he can see that we are for real.

just remember its also a business, so they will have to see the €€€ aswell. Get it right what you are willing to offer etc.

Well guys I really don't think a list will work in this case. We had really high hopes for Barrage, so much so that we actually organised a pretty impressive sales pitch. Quite a few of us showed up with all our gear and had a meeting with the owner. He definitely seemed interested but had to sort out insurance. He had been hoping to have it sorted by Christmas but since it hasn't happened I can only assume that he was unable to get insurance. We may be better off just sticking with what we got for the moment.

no harm in ringing him again to let him know that you are still looking anf interested. Trust me, they are busy guys up there and when contentrating on paintball, they need to be reminded of other stuff. It tooke me a few months to convince them to set up a speedball arean but now its nearly the biggest earner.

And we have a lot more players now.

Give'm a call Noip just in case he's still interested!

Like I said I have no doubt about his interest its the insurance issue that is stopping us, and no amount of phone calls lists or petitions landing at the doors of barrage will fix that. If you want to help people open airsoft sites then you need to put pressure on insurance companies. If dozens of people start ringing insurances companies asking about site policies they will take notice (believe me insurance companies are quick to sniff out a buck). Perhaps somebody could find out who insures HRTA and then pass that information on to the folks at Barrage.

There is no insurance for hrta, the waiver means that basically, any injury sustained as a result of you playing airsoft is your fault as you decided to play a game which you know can cause physicle strain on the body and are signing up to shoot and get shot.

And before anyone says that waivers dont count for ****, its already been tried in the courts.

Lyods in the uk insure sites over there for airsoft and we enquired about the possibility of getting cover over here for a sit and they got back and said they would offer cover. they asked for a load of details such as number of players in a game (roughly), types of games, terain etc. details have een forwarded along with waivers and letters of support from TD's so just playing the waiting game now.

sites joining under the uk is going to give them the best opertunity for recognition in the eyes of insurance companies. the reason the are reluctant to insure is because if they insure 5 people, one of the gets seriously injured and needs to claim for 600000euro, they would need to charge each of the five part of that to stay in proffit, in other words, ireland will not have enough sites buying insurance to cover a claim should one need to.

Waivers can be useful in situations where things get as far as court, but they're no replacement for insurance. There are certain things you can waive, but you can't waive your right to sue if someone else is actually at fault.

So a waiver for "any injury sustained as a result of you playing airsoft is your fault as you decided to play a game which you know can cause physicle strain on the body and are signing up to shoot and get shot" may give a certain extent of cover if it's correctly worded ( many aren't. Many are extremely badly worded ), but it's not going to cover you if someone walks up to you and punches you in the face for no reason or shoots you with a 500fps rifle or if a member of the public walks in and gets shot in the eye, or if the building randomly collapses of top of you all, and so forth.

Edit: Plus, a waiver, even if badly worded and not worth even a laugh in a court of law can be useful for rentals at a site in so much that if people think they've signed a legally binding document, they're more likely to behave themselves and it draws their attention to what they are and aren't expected to be doing whilst onsite. Whether or not it's legally binding is secondary as long as it gets the desired effect. ;)

LOL, that was a very brief version of the waiver but i know it is a direct copy of the one tested in the courts already and has held up. and i know that it doesnt protect against everything which is why i am looking into insurance.

Would this mean a possible chance for me to go to HRTA because paul said that it was the insurance that was the problem

Nope, regardless of the insurance issue Paul has specified a minimum age for players.
