You know the way a cd spins if its in the drive upon boot and continues to spin for a couple of minutes, is there a way to disable this as the noise is a pain in the bum.

Take it out before you shutdown?

lol, but im gonna be playing the game later, that would entail lots of putting in and taking out's, it's a bit of a silly request but if anyone knows it would be appreciated

Same problem here, even though I have HDD as first boot device the DVD drive tries to access the disk for some reason and often takes about 5 mins to fully boot. Easy solution though would be to take out your disks as I have. :o

I think you hold down shift or ctrl during startup to stop it spinning....but I dont know of a hack to stop it spinning every startup by default.

change the boot order in the bios so the computer doesn't use the cd rom as a boot device or it boots from the hard drive before the cd.

this should stop it spinning on boot.

although it will spin again when you boot into windows.

You can alter the spin-up spin-down time on some advanced DVDRW drives but in general it's something you want to leave alone.

If it's the noise that's bothering you the best thing to do is get a drive with a built in speed limiter in the firmware this means it wont go high speed even outside of Windows like a Plextor or Samsung drive which ave utilities that allow you to set the read speed.

There are software speed limiters but they can play havoc with the auto insert notification and only work within Windows.

Why don't you just eject the disc-tray upon boot and close it when yer done?
