Cheap CF from 7dayshop, if anyone is looking...

Oh no! Don't buy from 7dayshop. Google for "7dayshop" to see what happened to me. Besides that experience, I bought CF cards from them and both were dodgy. Within a few weeks I'd get an ERR99 on my Canon 20D, and when I'd try to copy files off they'd be corrupted.
I lost some great shots of a visiting warship to Cork because of those dud cards :(

    Anyway, don't go near 7dayshop.

    Donncha.

 Oh no, I ordered a 4GB San Disk Ultra II from them yesterday. My thinking being that if its genuine San Disk then it should be fine and I thought 7dayshop got good reviews!

Anyone else have experience with them?

Bought my camera off them and a no name 1GB CF card and I've never had any bother ...

A lot of people have said they are great ,the only thing I've read is the article by donncha and their own brand batteries ,may leak if left charging.

There was other stuff ,but everyone over in the biz forum said they were grand.

Bought dozens of items over two years problem free. Only "problem" is if you order four or five items you may get four or five seperate packages. No extra cost just the hassle of going to the PO. Excellent supplier imo.

I have to disagree Donncha. I have bought CF cards (Sandisk),batteries, filters and film off them and I have never had a problem.

How do the read/write speeds of this card (10MBps/9MBps) rate versus other manufacturers? The card I have at the moment is so slow.

I've bought loads off them over the last 5 or 6 years. Camera batteries, CF cards, USB memory sticks, filters, lots of printer cartidges and more. I've had a couple of incorrect or missing deliveries, but never faulty goods. They do get sorted out in the end, but it takes a long time. Their customer service is really slow. For that reason I would never buy an expensive or item off them, or anything I need in a hurry. But for cheaper items, for me their price makes up for the occasional incorrect or delayed delivery.

Bought loads from them, films first and CF and paper now.
Can't be faulted at the price (Fuji Velvia @ 1.99 stg/roll...).
One CF I bought from them is a bit dodgy but at under 20STG for a 4Gb, can't really complain.
Their sandisk are, so far, brilliant, if very slow to arrive (1.5 week after the rest of the order).

Here's hoping. Just ordered that 2gb Sandisk.

I've read that there's so many dodgy memory cards out there that even genuine vendors end up stocking a few. I'll try and find the source.

Have dealt with them for a few years now and never had an issue beyond slow delivery timescales. They even respond to email queries alot quicker than they used to as well.

I reckon you were unlucky donncha.

Same here, never any problems. Prices are too good to pass up.

Why would you want Ultra II when Extreme V is available!?

I've bought film and CF cards from these and every item has arrived in perfect working order.

Thanks for the link helios. I've also gotten a few bits and pieces from 7dayshop in the past and never had any problems. I've also recommended the site to others who have also been happy with it. After reading donncha's experience I think I would think twice before ordering something of high value from them in future, but for smaller items their prices are usually worth a chance.

Another positive here. Bought loads over the years. No problems.

for those desperate people who just can't wait for the packages through the post apparently ALSI is selling 1GB cards for €9.99... don't know what quality or speed.

I think the ones Aldi are selling are SD cards. I've bought a bunch of stuff from 7dayshop - SD cards, Sony Memory Sticks, printer cartridges etc and never had a problem. They ship stuff in seperate packages to avoid having to pay UK VAT, which is applicable on shipments over £18 in value from tax havens like Jersey and the channel islands.

Would the additional cost be justified ? See some in-camera tests here:

Granted it doesn't cover the latest extreme V, just up to extreme IV, but the camera's transfer speed may be a limiting factor anyway...

Copy speed from flash to your laptop is very important for some people. Having the right equipment, can make a lot of difference, especially when you're copying 4GB of data, or more.

I've bought generic SD cards from 7 day shop a few times and they seem to be OK, I also buy film from them frequently. Delivery times can vary a bit, I did have one problem - an item that didn't arrive, but they re-sent it when I complained.
