Canceled sky back down to the basic package 2 days ago.
They asked why and i said that the movie channels just werent worth it anymore.
Then she said that they would be increasing the number of channels soon, but i told her that the change in movie channels had made us think about all the channels we pay for, it and we dont really need them as it is getting too expensive.
So she said fine and downgraded my package.

This morning i got a call asking me did i want half price world package for 2 months and i set no. Then they offered it for 6 months half price.
At this stage i said no, but if they gave us it for half price for 12 months i would think about it. After some convincing they got me to say yes :)

It is getting too expensive (€800 a year for tv) and half price for the year is much more reasonable for me.

    Nice one.Well engineered.
To be honest €800 per year is ludicrous for Sky.
I have had a good few 1/2 price for 3 month deals in the last 2 years.
May have to threaten cancellation again.

Quite possibly, though there's been some discussion recently on this forum and others regarding Sky dropping the sky+ charge from 1st July. Some have even been offered extra credit on their acc. to cover the '+' charge till July. It might be worth threatening to cancel you sub alltogether and see what they offer to keep you on. Been considering upgrading to Sky+ myself but as I have a minimum irish sub (up north) it's complicated, so I'll wait 'n' watch for another while to see how things play out.

    Regards.:)

Sky are giving out a free Sky + box (Refurb) and free installation at the moment to existing customers if you threaten to cancel.

That would interest me alrite as I was thinking of getting Sky+ anyway and our own Digibox is giving some trouble its 3+ years old.

Got a 12 month discount off them last year which is now up (20% I think) so may have to threaten to cancel again ;)

No, as you'd still have Sky SPorts 1 and 2. So those 2 premium channels would keep Sky+ features free.

Who do I ring about that, Sky or the provider who fitted my box originally?
Just threaten to quit if they don't upgrade me?

found this on ebay - > clicky

you more or less just say you're gonna cancel, & then they will apparently come forward with a sweet deal to keep you on board.

    no guarantees though, lol

Spot on,you must be put thru to cancellations.
Tell then you cant get value from your subscription because you are doing shift work and you dont get to see your favourite programs.
Sky will follow the bait in most cases.

Im just off the phone to Sky gave them the whole spiel about changing shifts at work, not getting value out of subscription etc. and she said while there is no offer on Sky+ at the moment she was prepared to offer me a 20% 12 month discount on my package, currently Sky Sports World @ €55.50, if I took a Sky+ box and installation at normal price €224 ( €149 + €75 )

I told her I'd have a think about it and get back to her.

I was offered the same deal about 1 month ago.
Its not great to be honest.
It seems the days of half price deals are over ,they are definitely gone in the UK since start of 07 but they may return.

I was on to them over the weekend. They offered me Sky+ and installation for €224 in total. They also said I wouldn't have to pay any extra fees for using Sky+ come July. I currently only have a four mix package, and under their current offers I would have had to pay an extra €15 a month to use Sky+.

Basically once I pay €224 it'll be free.

I told them I'd think about it.

I rang them over the weekend too and they confirmed that the Sky+ charges will be going from July as reported previously (and yes it will apply to Ireland). My Sky+ box is a V2 without Anytime functionality, and the HDD seems to be on the way out and, whilst I could just install a new one, I asked about upgrading to a HD box (as I plan to get a HDTV over the summer anyway).

The guy in their Sky+ dept reckoned I have some "offers" on my account for both plus and HD, but he couldn't access them for some reason, so he transferred me to another dept as they could check and let me know, and he would call me back in a few days to see if I wanted to take them up on it.

Of course when I get through to the other dept she says there's nothing against my account, and it'd cost full price (over €400) if I want one.

Feck that. I'll buy a HD box on ebay, install it myself (after all the cabling is already in place), and call them to pair the card I think.
